Presentation on Wildlife Safety and Avoidance

While this not an official Sierra Club Outing, it may be of interest to our members. It is from the Wildland Response Meetup Group, which you may consider joining.

Fact and fiction – what are the real risks and how do we really stay safe?

We have all heard different dos, don'ts, rights wrongs and even rhymes about how to avoid dangerous animal encounters in the wild. But what are the real risks? How do we stay as safe as possible? Too much information can often times provide too much to remember and that doesn't help us in an emergency when we're trying to remember something about "red touching yellow" and "friendly fellows" This workshop will discuss different risks associated with animal exposure, how to assess them, avoid them and respond to them. (Learn animal threat statistics, What is important to know about identification? What do we do once it's too late? How do we best avoid risky interactions int he first place?)

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
