Coastal Prairie Trail

We will be hiking the Coastal Prairie Trail. This trail is somewhere between 12-14 miles. It is well maintained (at least the first half is) and passes through shady hammocks and open coastal prairies, ending at Clubhouse Beach, where we will stop for lunch before heading back. This is a great full day hike!

Plan on 5-6 hours of hiking, depending on your pace and number of breaks, plus a lunch break of about a half hour. This is a full day hike. Much of the trail is uncovered. Sun protection is a must, as is mosquito repellent. Chances are, the trail will be muddy and there may be water along some parts. Good walking shoes or hiking boots are a must. No jeans or sneakers. Bring lots of water (4 liters minimum), lunch and snacks.

The trail begins at the end of Loop C in the Flamingo Campground. Flamingo is 34 miles (about 45 minutes drive) from the entrance of the park. Please plan your drive time accordingly so, we can assemble our gear and get an ontime start. And please remember that we do start ontime.

I have hiked all my life-and have never hiked in anything BUT Jeans, due to ticks, underbrush strikes and snakes. That includes down here.

I been on that trail a bunch of times. Make sure you guys have lots of water and repellent. This time of the year most of the trail will be flooded. I would strongly recommend bringing poles or a walking stick since parts of the trail are slippery.
