What we’re about

{Free ASL classes Canceled for now; Public Libraries closed pending Corona status.  Please post Discussion or email Organizer if you have a good, safe idea related to sign language. Thank you.}

Hi there,

When I searched for Sign Language group in Tampa Bay, I was shocked to see that the nearest groups were in Orlando. I've recently had a good reason come up to learn American Sign Language. Basically I know none to start, but as an experienced signer told me, the more you practice, the more you'll learn. Whether you're like me, a complete beginner, or a skilled master of ASL, motivated to meet and help others on occasion, you are welcome to join. I expect that some will join without any experience. And I anticipate that many will join who sign quite well. I hope that all enjoy camaraderie. Dues? Initially, I am not charging any annual dues. However, to pay the Meetup.com fees, I probably will ask later for something very modest. And I hope for motivated and friendly event organizers to step forward, even people to lead the group in the future.

*** WANT MORE EVENTS AROUND TAMPA BAY?  READ ON ***

Sometimes people ask about (having) events in different locations (especially in Tampa).  Group members can make them happen! See this post for more info:
https://www.meetup.com/SignLanguageTampaBay/events/132038262/
After you read this, as a member of the group (not before joining), contact me if you'd like to create an event.  (Please don't message me if you haven't even joined the group yet.  Thank you.)

Notice in that page that I mention 'Suggest events' but Meetup has changed.  Now the current procedure is to ask an Organizer (currently Elaine / me) to give you the capability (organizer designation) to create new meetup events for the group! You may also notice on that post a few Comments from members noting ASL opportunities in different locations. As nice as it is that members try to let people know, these comments or replies are not as effective as _creating _new _events. So again, contact Elaine or me if you'd like to post a new event, such as in Tampa. Thanks.
