This is a SILENT meditation hike for people of average hiking skills. We love the city, but every once in a while it is important to spend time in nature. Join us as we spend a few hours hiking in silence. Rev. Ian White Maher, minister of Original Blessing: A Unitarian Universalist Congregation, will lead the hike and ground the experience in three guided meditations exploring the beauty of creation. Harriman State Park is easily accessible by bus and car. The hike is moderately difficult but does not require hiking boots. Please be able to handle a moderately strenuous hike.
The hike leaves out of the train station in Tuxedo, NY. You can easily get to Tuxedo by car or bus. I will be riding the bus every time, unless otherwise noted. We will gather in and around the small room on the north end of the train station, which has the bathrooms.
The bus leaves from Port Authority at 9:10 AM and arrives at 10:10 in Tuxedo, NY. We'll return to Port Authority at 6:00 PM—so pack lunch. There is a small deli/restaurant where we can grab some dinner before we ride the bus (or car) home. Bus tickets can be purchased online at http://www.coachusa.com/shortline or at the Shortline window (when you enter Port Authority on 8th Ave between 41st and 42st St. take the escalators immediately to the left). Cost: Cost: $27.50 bus ticket CASH OR DEBIT CARD ONLY - SHORTLINE DOESN'T TAKE CREDIT CARDS (weird, I know, those are the facts)
If you'd like to drive please be on time. We will be leaving for the hike when the bus arrives in order to be back on time for the bus ride home. The address is 240 Rte 17, Tuxedo Park, NY. I have been told you can no longer park at the train station. You will get ticketed. However, just north and east (turn right) of the train station there is a small parking lot for hikers.
I ask for a $10 to $15 donation for leading this silent retreat, but if you do not have the money please give what you can. No one should be excluded for financial reasons.
