Is anyone driving down from/via Berkeley that I could rideshare with or someone who could pick me up at the BART station for this event Monday (Aug 6)?

Thanks,

Ezra

Greetings, SVAOS mailing list subscribers.

0. Please respond by this Monday July 23 at noon if you want to enjoy a snack (once again generously sponsored by ICS) before Tuesday night's event.

1. Speaking of which, our next meetup is

When: Tuesday July 24 at 7 PM
Where: Intel Auditorium in Santa Clara; 3600 Juliette Lane, Santa Clara, CA
What: "Android, Arduino and CAN: the OpenXC Platform"
Who: T.J. Giuli of Ford
RSVP and map: http://www.meetup.com/Silicon-Valley-Automotive-Open-Source/events/63493972/
Schedule: about 6:30 PM we will have the food and drink laid out in the smaller side room.   About 7 PM we will move to the Auditorium to hear the presentation.

Details

http://openxcplatform.com/

OpenXC is an API to your car - by installing a small hardware module to read and translate metrics from a car's internal network, the data becomes accessible from most Android applications using the OpenXC library. You can start making vehicle-aware applications that have better interfaces based on context, can minimize distraction while driving, are integrated with other connected services, and can offer the consumer more insight into their car's operation.  I will give technical details on how OpenXC works, some prototype apps Ford has been experimenting with, and talk about how developers can get involved.

Thanks as always to Amar Kona and Intel for hosting us and to ICS for underwriting the snacks.

2. In August we will try a new location in Fremont close to the Mission Boulevard/880 interchange where SVAOS presents

When: Monday August 6 at 7 PM
Where: Mentor Graphics Cafeteria in Fremont; 46871 Bayside Parkway, Fremont, CA
What: "Car- and Ride-share Start-ups Lightning Talks and Panel"
Who: Presenters Jesse Biroscak (JustShareIt), Charlz Caldwell (ZigZagBy), Ezra Goldman (ride-sharing consultant), Warren Jackson (HP Labs Android app author) with Moderator Jack Gavigan (angel investor)
RSVP and map: http://www.meetup.com/Silicon-Valley-Automotive-Open-Source/events/72690322/
Schedule: about 6:30 PM the food will be out in the Cafeteria, where at 7 PM we will begin the talks.

Details

Four lightning talks (about 5 minutes each) following by a brief panel discussion about both technical and business aspects of the car- and ride-sharing space with audience Q&A

Thanks to Mentor Graphics for hosting and for food sponsorship.

3. In September we will return to Fremont to hear

When: Thursday September 27 at 7 PM
Where: Mentor Graphics Cafeteria in Fremont; 46871 Bayside Parkway, Fremont, CA
What: "Technical and Commercial challenges of V2V and V2I networks"
Who: Ravi Puvvala, CEO, Savari Networks
RSVP and map: http://www.meetup.com/Silicon-Valley-Automotive-Open-Source/events/67299222/
Schedule: about 6:30 PM the food will be out in the Cafeteria, where at 7 PM we will begin the talk.

Details

The progression of V2X networking is unquestionably faster than the
evolution of the automobile lifecycle. This talk will focus on:

importance of global systems compatibility through standards such as arecognised frequency channel to ensure that early developments achieve maximum visibility

technical and commercial challenges facing V2X network deployments.

minimum technology infrastructure needed to make V2I possible including the potential of a region-by-region scalability model

state of the art V2X national testbeds in the world

Integration of V2X technology with ADAS and infotainment systems

Thanks to Mentor Graphics for hosting and for food sponsorship.

4. In October I hope to return to Santa Clara with possible talks by GM, ICS, CA Department of Transportation, BMW, Mercedes, Bosch or MontaVista all agreed in principle but as yet unscheduled.

5. Please consider volunteering to help out with the group, for example in making venue arrangements, recruiting new speakers, representing SVAOS at SAE meetings, improving the website organization, sponsoring a purely social event, suggesting a speaker, propagating event announcements, bringing prizes to give away, announcing job openings at the beginning of the meetings . . .
