-- Next SVAOS event: "San Jose State Students Build Formula-1 Style Racecars" lab tour and lecture, 7:00 PM, Wednesday, July 24, 2013
Presenters: SJSU students Vince Donatini and Kevin Krakauer.
San Jose State University students discuss the methods in designing, building, testing, & competing with formula style racecars in SAE's Collegiate Design Series; Formula SAE. This talk will be focused on the engineering aspect of the competition and how it effects students success while at university.
6:30 PM -- usual refreshments (sandwiches, chips, fruit, soda, no alcohol).
7 PM -- presentations and lab tour.
Cost: $10, 100% of which goes towards SJSU's project thanks to the ongoing generosity of our principal sponsor, ICS. There will be no refunds.
Even if you cannot attend or are not interested, please consider donating even $5 to the students' PayPal account through the registration link.
-- On August 12, a dozen of us will convene to discuss the "Reinventing the Automobile" book:
Please cancel your registration if you cannot attend or will not finish the book by August 12. Note that there is no reason that others cannot organize alternate dinners or lunches or coffees to discuss the book at times and places of their own convenience, as there is no special presenter or food subsidy at the August 12 event.
I also found "American Wheels, Chinese Roads" valuable
and would like to follow up with a second discussion if the first goes well. Other suggestions are welcome. Would anyone like to volunteer to run a monthly automotive reading-discussion group?
-- "Self-Driving Carsharing and Smart Mobility" by Tiago Forte, faberNovel and PARISOMA.

The event will be held at Toyota Innovation Hub, hosted by Institute for Creative Integration, at their North Beach San Francisco facility:
The location is not easily accessible by transit: let us South Bay residents form carpools via comments on the web page. We will have snacks from Trader Joe's generously underwritten by Toyota.
