Tuning MongoDB for Next Generation Storage Systems with MongoDB & SolidFire

Interested in learning more about MongoDB on SolidFire?

The architecture of MongoDB makes it ideal for large scale deployments. By tuning MongoDB to work with a next generation storage system, database administrators can achieve consistent, repeatable IO performance with ultra low latency in a highly scalable, extremely flexible database environment.

Join Chris Merz as he walks through a real-world example to show how to:
Architect MongoDB with SolidFire storage for a large scale production cloud environment
Traverse the technology stack to identify performance bottlenecks
Optimize IO performance and latency
Normalize performance under load
Maintain performance at scale

Parking at Datapipe: Use the S. Second Street (one-way) to access under-ground parking below the data center.  The entrance is located directly across from the Safeway Market.  Take the S. First Street Elevator and proceed to the North end of the building, glass atrium entrance Suite 101.

Agenda:
6:00 – 6:30 – Socialize over food and drink
6:30 – 6:45 - Introductions, Announcements
6:45 - 7:30 - Tuning MongoDB for Next Generation Storage Systems - Chris Merz, SolidFire Sr. Database Application Engineer
7:30 - 7:45 - Q&A

About the presenter:
Chris Merz is an internet services database veteran, with years of practical operations and architecture experience dating back to the original dot com explosion. After a decade in global hosting infrastructure (WebCom/Verio/NTT), Chris joined MapMyFitness to create a scalable data system that serves many TB of data to many millions of customers daily, employing a mix of NoSQL and traditional RDBMS systems. At SolidFire, he serves as the Chief Database Strategist and Sr. Database App Engineer. His goal is to fundamentally change the nature of the DBA/Cloud relationship as it exists today.

Missed the meetup but was able to catchup with Chris at Strata 2014 and got a one-on-one download. Very insightful. SolidFire has a great product - ideal for scaling out and enhancing performance out of MongoDB.

Is it possible to attach the ppt or video recoding details here for those were not able to attend...

With a solid background in solving I/O performance problems in enterprise storage environments I really appreciated the presentation and case study which showed some major steps to optimze the OS (e.g. i/o scheduler, MPIO, filesystem and mount options) and even the DB stack (syncdelay in this particular case) to bring down an end-to-end latency from around 15-17 ms to a consistent 1.2 ms range. Such steps to properly align the whole I/O stack are even more important today when it comes to all-flash storage as most of the I/O stack still is adjusted for traditional spinning disks. The presentation also increased my interest in SolidFire. So thanks to everyone for making this event possible!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
