The Guadalupe River Trail

  • This location is shown only to members

Distance: 16 miles - 8 miles out from the Guadalupe River Park & Gardens to Alviso Slough and 8 miles back to GRPG in San Jose

Elevation: minimal

This is a nice easy inaugural bike ride with very little chance of getting lost! The biggest challenge is the prevailing wind on the way out, but rest assured, that same wind will blow us all the way back.

We'll meet outside Panera Bread which is opposite the Guadalupe River Park Conservancy, as there is lots of parking there and if anyone feels so inclined we can get some refreshments after the bike ride.

Thanks Jo, very enjoyable ride even with the wind. Nice to meet all who joined the ride. Looking forward to the next outing.

Nice bike trail to Alviso. strong headwinds to Alviso but a nice push back to Panera Bread ;-)

One of my favorite trails. It's a great workout heading into the wind.

Anybody has a bike pump that I can borrow before our ride? Plz let me know. If nobody has a bike pump, I need to bail out on this ride. Thanks for your help.. :)

      I'll bring one

Out of curiosity, do we have an estimated ride length? Even ballpark would be cool. I've got class at 6PM (yeah, gross!) on Tuesdays so I might be cutting it close if I come along. Sounds like a fun inaugural ride though!

Sounds good. Thank you Jo! Also, the forecast is showing around 20% rain tomorrow. Hopefully we don't get rained out (knock on wood), but if it does rain, are we cancelling?

If it's torrential, yes, otherwise no, because we won't have to worry about traffic control on this route, just our own wheels.

Any idea when you expect to roll out?

Thanks, we will be leaving from Hayward so every minute will count.

Yes, you'd have to try pretty hard to get lost on this trail! I don't get off work til 3:30 so I'm hoping a slightly later ride may occur in the future.

I'll bear that in mind, the evenings are light, so we should be able to leave later in future. What kind of time could you make with your bike?

4:15, 4:30- ish. I used to ride mid-week during the summer from Palo Alto. We met at 6:00 at Mike's Bikes, did a quick and beautiful 21 miles and were always back (well) before dark, just in time for pizza, burgers and beer :)

Norma, you have to click the RSVP button! I know you'll be there but you'd best know how to use this system in case you host when I'm away :-)

  • Jo

Sorry everyone for being tardy with replies, my meet up notifications went through a mail digest system and I've only just found them all! I'll be fixing that right now.

I have a busted right shifter, but if I can get it replaced before tomorrow I will be there. Otherwise I will join in on the next one.

Good luck getting it fixed, hope to see you!

On trail or on the road?

    April 19

    • Lindsay M.

Trail. You can get onto it right by Panera, and follow it all the way up to Alviso.

      April 21

    • Jo

It's a trail, but it's paved trail - the best of both worlds :-) Smooth road tyres are fine, but there's no scary cars!

      1 · April 21

  • Sheryl

Sounds perfect but can't make it this time. Looking forward to a ride soon though.

    1 · April 21

  • Lindsay M.

I might do a slight variation, cycle to Panera, then up to Alviso with you guys, but hop off the trail at home, rather than cycling all the way back to Coleman (unless I feel the urge for an extra 12 miles!)

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
