The entrepreneurial culture of Silicon Valley attracts  dreamers and doers.  Many come to the Valley and eagerly take the plunge: they quit their jobs and launch a start up.

Some start ups succeed.  Many start ups fail. Most start ups face an array of legal, financial and operational challenges.

Our speaker will address some of the  issues entrepreneurs face  when conceptualizing, establishing, financing and then scaling their businesses.

Please bring your questions and scenarios.

This is part of a series of teleconferences and events featuring our speaker.

Darrell directed the conversation more toward political angst on regulation than on funding, legal, financial issues. He did answer my question on licensing research and that was useful.

Thanks! Appreciate the information on Patents, Copyrights, and Library of Congress. Recommendation: Keep your politics out of the conversation. It seems you were more interested in swaying political opinion than talking shop.

Some questions I would love to see answered are:
-My company creates a software tool; how can I avoid being liable for anything created using my software tool, specially in the case my tool had a bug?
-There are probably thousends of NDA's on the web; how can I recognize a good one?
-If some employee runs away with the source code, can I still protect the trade secrets it contains?

I think we are all adults with the normal civility intact. I don't need relationship coaching. I want to know about entrepreneurs.

I feel like you are more focused on fear based motivations about good/bad evil... and bad government rather than on the positive things about being an entrepreneur. Can you talk about how people get funded? Licensed?

I recently started <StartSup.Co> to increase awareness of and value of those things that are OTHER than legal and financial issues. Your comment about narcissists is a good example of those "other" things, i.e. team building and/or partnering. Good to have some time to work with that team or partner for 'x' amount of time if you don't know them. Looking at various business models to wrap this business around.

Thank you for providing this opportunity to post our questions. I am a small business and I have some questions about patents. I have some ideas for a device( not wearable ) -I want to know what is the best way to go about taking this forward - should I look into patenting or should I look at building the device ? I would appreciate your input on this,
    regards

I a getting my MA in Instructional Technology and have a background of serving start ups in SF with accounting and communications services since 1986, licensed in 1995. I built an instructional design for GAAP guided QuickBooks Training for Entrepreneurs and have an interest in turning the unemployed into the self employed with small local service businesses. So I am teaching financial concepts, stmts, and how to create the parent accounts for any business. Will add a piece (theater, role play, integrity tone scale) to account for damages from disengagement of society that intends to re-up a new attitude! Looking forward to this conversation. Want to see my project at www.nicholsonbusinessservices.com? Enjoy!
