Best Practices for Storing, Querying, and Visualizing Big Data

This event is organized by the Big Data Connection meetup.

Idea to IPO is collaborating by promoting this event.

This event is free to attend.

Please register here:

Join us at Nimble Storage's beautiful campus in San Jose as solution engineers and architects from Cloudera, Nimble Storage, ZoomData, and the American Institute of Big Data Professionals present next-generation solution ideas around storage, big data architecture, and analytics and visualization.

Highlights of the presentations:

Cloudera Impala: The Open Source, Distributed SQL Query Engine for Big Data.  The Cloudera Impala project is pioneering the next generation of Hadoop capabilities: the convergence of fast SQL queries with the capacity, scalability, and flexibility of a Apache Hadoop cluster. With Impala, the Hadoop ecosystem now has an open-source codebase that helps users query data stored in Hadoop-based enterprise data hubs in real time, using familiar SQL syntax.

This talk will begin with an overview of the challenges organizations face as they collect and process more data than ever before, followed by an overview of Impala from the user's perspective and a dive into Impala's architecture. It concludes with stories of how Cloudera's customers are using Impala and the benefits they see.

Speaker:  Gwen Shapira is a Solutions Architect at Cloudera. Gwen studied computer science, statistics, and operations research at the University of Tel Aviv, and then went on to spend the next 15 years in different technical positions in the IT industry.

Next Generation Cloud Storage Technology.  Speaker:  Larry Lancaster, Chief Data Scientist at Nimble Storage

Best Practices for Visualizing Big Data Big data presents unique challenges when it comes to visualization and analysis. Whether it's the constantly changing nature of big data or the sheer size of the datasets, a fresh approach is needed. Learn the key visualization principles we employ at Zoomdata every day to make sense of big data.

The proliferation of new sources for big data, such as Hadoop, NoSQL and real time streaming engines combined with user's eagerness to interact with their data in intuitive ways demands new approaches and tools. With Zoomdata, you can access massive amounts of historical and real time data, from a variety of sources, and interact with it using D3, leaflet, NVD3 or any javascript data visualization toolkit.

Speaker:  William Lindner is the Head of Front-end Engineering at Zoomdata. Whether it's architecting Zoomdata's modern interface with Backbone.js or building dynamic visualizations with D3.js William is always looking for ways to push web browsers to their limits. Before Zoomdata, William studied Business Information Technology and Computer Science at Virginia Tech and worked as an Engineer at Clarabridge.

American Institute of Big Data Professionals. Speaker:  Prasad Mavuduri, Managing Director

The vision of American Institute of Big Data Professionals (AIBDP) is to help enterprises to understand, and implement Big Data to solve real world problems. Thus AIBDP is aimed to serve as the premier worldwide alliance for all stakeholders involved in Big Data related efforts. Representative stakeholders include customers (enterprises), technology vendors, academicians, researchers, and individual practitioners. AIBDP will orchestrate events such as conferences and tutorials to assist in showcasing and disseminating best practices, and to provide a networking opportunity for leaders and practitioners in the field.

AIBDP is an independent not-for-profit body, governed by an Executive Board and an Advisory Board consisting of recognized leaders in the field. AIBDP has subcommittees to represent each major business vertical. Each vertical will have a subcommittee and head, reporting into the main board. Each vertical segment will also have corporate representatives.
