This workshop will provide a brief overview of patents, trademarks, and copyrights. In particular, our speaker, patent attorney Mark Khoo, will outline the legal protections provided by having a patent. Mark will go over the key steps needed to file a patent application. Mark will also discuss some of the critical details which a startup will need to be aware of when dealing with patents. Finally, Mark will review various strategies that can increase the value of patents.

About the Speaker:
Mark Koo prepares and prosecutes patent applications in technology related patent law. Mark has held various engineering roles at software companies in Silicon Valley including early venture startups. Mark has been involved in Silicon Valley companies in technologies such as data warehousing, wireless software and hardware technologies, and internet technologies as well as software for voice communication technologies. Mark received his J.D. from University of Pacific, McGeorge School of law. He is licensed to practice law by the State of California and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
