Bicycle Exchange Workday with Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition

The Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition helps needy families and individuals by repairing and donating used bicycles to our partner community service organizations. A warehouse and workshop is fully outfitted with storage, repair stands and tools for year round operation. SVBC meets to receive, repair, and distribute its inventory of donated bicycles. New volunteers often learn bicycle repair skills by assisting a team of more experienced volunteers.

The Bicycle Exchange donates bicycles and helmets throughout the year to local charities that serve both children and adults. They also provide bicycles to homeless individuals to provide transportation from shelters to places of employment and schooling.

Tax-deductible donations of bicycles are gladly accepted. The program specializes in children’s bicycles (tricycles + wheel sizes from 12.5” to 26” including Mt. Bikes) and they accept adult size bikes in exceptionally good condition. The mechanics always have lots to do and none are paid so we appreciate your effort to clean up your bike before donating it so we can focus on repairs.

Visit their website for more details about the bicycle exchange workday. http://bikesiliconvalley.org/bikeex

*The workday is from 10am-3pm. They have costco pizza for lunch for a $3 donation or you can bring your own bag lunch. Please wear work clothes, bring sunscreen and a water bottle.

No worries Shruti, volunteers are paired up w/ more experienced volunteers to learn repair skills. I have limited bike repair knowledge myself, but a lot of what I do know I've learned by hosting these events:) It's a great way to give back and at the same time very educational- look forward to you coming out to help!
