Help Feed the Hungry at Loaves & Fishes Family Kitchen ENC

Loaves & Fishes Family Kitchen, a non-profit organization has been serving the working poor, families, homeless and seniors living in and around the downtown and East Side of San Jose for over 32 years. What began as a simple first meal of fish and bread for 11 adults and 15 children has grown to nearly 500 meals per day, served with dignity. These no-cost hot meals are offered to our clients in a safe, caring, and friendly environment.

As a volunteer at Loaves & Fishes Family Kitchen at the Eastside Neighborhood Center (ENC), you may be asked to help with all aspects of the meals, including setting up our dining room for dinner, preparing the meal, serving and clean up. You must be able to help for the entire 2 1/2 hour shift starting from 3:30pm-6:00pm. Please leave your valuables at home- such as purse, laptop, ipod, etc.

Parking: You can use any open spot on the streets around the building, and there is a small lot behind the building off of Plaza de Guadalupe. If this is your first time coming to this location or you are unfamiliar with the area, we recommend coming early to ensure you are on time for the start of your shift.

Dress code:

•pull hair back if it is medium or long length

•wear comfortable clothing & shoes you don’t mind getting dirty or wet

•no short shorts or short skirts, please

•wear closed-toe shoes (tennis shoes recommended)

•wear a top with sleeves (no halter or tank tops)

*It's not required, but some members of the group may choose to grab dinner/drinks at a local restaurant afterwards so we can hang out socially.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
