Help Feed the Hungry at Loaves & Fishes Family Kitchen ENC

***This event has been moved from Friday 1/17/14 to Friday 1/24/14, everything's the same but the date- the Waitlist is now closed due to the event being full- sorry for any inconvenience***

Loaves & Fishes Family Kitchen, a non-profit organization has been serving the working poor, families, homeless and seniors living in and around the downtown and East Side of San Jose for over 32 years. What began as a simple first meal of fish and bread for 11 adults and 15 children has grown to nearly 500 meals per day, served with dignity. These no-cost hot meals are offered to our clients in a safe, caring, and friendly environment.

As a volunteer at Loaves & Fishes Family Kitchen at the Eastside Neighborhood Center (ENC), you will be asked to help with all aspects of the meals, including setting up our dining room for dinner, preparing the meal, serving and clean up. You must be able to help for the entire 2 1/2 hour shift starting from 3:30pm-6:00pm.  The kitchen works on an extremely tight schedule to be able to feed such a large number of people in a short time so please do not arrive late as it puts the entire kitchen behind, so many need your help!

*Please leave your valuables at home- such as purse, backpacks, laptop, ipod, etc.

Parking: You can use any open spot on the streets around the building, and there is a small lot behind the building off of Plaza de Guadalupe. If this is your first time coming to this location or you are unfamiliar with the area, we recommend coming early to ensure you are on time for the start of your shift.

Dress code:

•pull hair back if it is medium or long length

•wear comfortable clothing & shoes you don’t mind getting dirty or wet

•no short shorts or short skirts, please

•wear closed-toe shoes (tennis shoes recommended)

•wear a top with sleeves (no halter or tank tops)

*donations of gallons of milk to be served during the meal are always needed and greatly appreciated

Note: By RSVP’ing to this event, you are agreeing to Silicon Valley Volunteers’ waiver policy. Please go to your profile page and say “YES” to the waiver policy after going through it if you had not done so already. When you RSVP "yes" to this event, it is clearly stated that your spot is NOT confirmed until you email me your full name, phone #, and email. I have tried contacting you several times regarding confirming your spot and have had no response. I have been hosting this event w/ SVV for a long time and am a Team Lead w/ Loaves & Fishes, and all volunteers are required to provide this info. well in advance as the organization does not accept any walk-on volunteers. Loaves & Fishes has 4 locations in San Jose and we serve Monday-Friday so you can sign up on their website www.loavesfishes.org for a number of shifts that are available. Sorry for any inconvenience, but that is why I ask for this info. as soon as you RSVP to be as fair as possible for everyone who wants to serve and I have an obligation to submit this info to the volunteer coordinator by a deadline in order for us to keep volunteering. Hope this answers your question. You can contact me for any questions/concerns.
