Anyone like to learn and practice orienteering? This is a sport that develops your ability to navigate using map and compass. Great fun!

What a great meetup! I am sorry that many of you couldn't make it. I will try to be better with directions in the future.

It was so much fun! May be we can use Meetup stickers on your car next time. Here is the Meetup t shirt I was referring to: http://www.zazzle.com...

They also have Meetup caps!
I had a great time meeting you guys and tromping through the brush finding the points together! Lots of fun. :)
I'm at 3600 Joaquin Miller (cross street Sanborn), but I don't see anyone. Should I go somewhere else?
As am I, but don't see anyone. I am at the parking lot by the rangers station
Sorry guys, waited till the last minute on a compass (I've always used GPS) and the store's were closed...

Don't worry, Lisa, join us anyway.
be there soon!
Sorry everyone, something came up last minute
Sometimes I hate my startup job. Sorry for the last minute drop, but something came up at work.
When I get off, I may still join, if you guys are still there.
My friend flew in from out of town at the last minute
I think that we can focus on merely learning to find our way and taking our time.
It's likely that many of us are beginners at this, plus if the weather's hot, we don't want to exert ourselves too much.
But if any of you are seized by the spirit to make it a race, by all means, go for it. :)

Perfect--I fall more into the beginner category. BTW, I'd be up for carpooling. I'll send a PM.
I'm in San Jose.
Needed to back out at the last minute. Hope to meet up on another occasion soon. Thanks.
Got my compass yesterday! Have to take color prints of the map tomorrow.

Sunday plans canceled so I can make this. Would love to catch a ride from SF if anyone is headed over from there.
Hi Douglas, Will this be organized as a "race against the clock" or is it more focused on map and compass practice? Thanks!

I am not sure if everyone got this message, so I will repeat it here. The maps may not be available at Joaquin Miller Park, so I urge you to print out your own. Go here:http://orienteer.com/poc/It's going to be VERY hot on Sunday, too - so be prepared.
I am coming up from San Jose via 880. If anyone's along that way, let me know. :)

Looking forward to my first event with the Primitive Wilderness Survival meetup!
Can someone give me a ride from BART in Oakland? I'm coming from SF, but don't own a car.

Sorry, have to drop out - another conflict just came up! Hope there will be another one!
I'm interested but is it possible to get a carpool from Berkeley?

Hopefully I'll be able to find Joaquin Miller Park, that will be a good start! :)

One requirement: pick up a decent quality compass. Thanks!

Yes, I would like to do this. I've done some in the past - it is a big sport like geocaching! 10AM at any particular spot - never been to this park???

Let me know if this date looks good, before I set it in stone.
Very interesting to me. Would love to do this course.

Ran into a bunch of these guys last weekend at Grant Park and learnt a great deal about them. Apparently this is a huge international sport.
I'd be down for it IF its in the coastal forrest or similar environment. I refuse to hike in east bay hills during the summer. Cant deal with the heat and dust.
