Out In The Dark 2012
A friend had seen this film at Outfest and recommended it to me. When I screened it, I immediately knew I wanted to share it with our group. One of the best gay films I've ever seen, it has an intensity and an integrity as powerful as 'Brokeback Mt.' Like that film, it concerns a passionate male love affair that struggles to exist against social pressures. But here the situation is more dangerous because the lovers are from either side of the wall between Palestine and Israel. As their relationship deepens, one of them is confronted by his Palestinian family who refuse to accept his sexual identity, and the other by his Israeli family who rejects his lover for his nationality.
A passionate gay love story and a family drama, the film turns into a political thriller. The last half hour will have you on the edge of your seat as dangerous forces close in around the lovers and they frantically try to escape a truly horrifying fate.
Note: the date for this screening is only 2 weeks after our last one but my scheduling conflicts required it. The next screening will probably be at the end of June.
