Silver Screenings is a social group with the purpose of bringing together retirement-age gay men in a casual, relaxing setting so we can meet and make friends. Each event consists of meeting in my condo for an hour of social mixing, drinks & a lite dinner and watching a gay film of special interest to the group.
I started this group for gay men who, like me, are single and entering their retirement years with fewer social opportunities; men who've lived a full life and continue to participate in the cultural scene around them ...and love movies. Men who want to connect and engage with other gay men with similar enthusiasms but find themselves out of the age-range for Internet dating, bars and the usual gay social clubs.
The movies chosen for Silver Screenings are ones slightly out of the main stream and deal with gay characters, gay situations and/or gay history. Movies like: I Love You, Phillip Morris, The Broken Hearts Club, Gods and Monsters and documentaries like: The Celluloid Closet. While fun and entertaining to watch, the films are chosen to be the kind that spark interesting conversations afterward.
