SSWG: Tuesday Night Meeting - Telling Your Story by Memoir and Personal Essay

  • July 23, 2013 · 7:00 PM

Welcome to the Silver Spring Writer's Group Tuesday Meeting!

The Tuesday meetings are a great opportunity to get to know the writers in our group.  With a more casual format than the Saturday meetings, we typically meet from 7pm - 8:30 pm ET on the fourth Tuesday of the month.

The meeting is divided into two parts:

(1)  Introductions

(2)  Targeted Discussion

Introductions
is a time to introduce yourself, your work, and any issues you may be facing that you think your fellow writers can help with.

Targeted Discussion is just that - a chance to talk about anything and everything related to your writing, writing in general, literature as we know it today!  Typically I'll try to provide a handout or resources focused on a particular area of writing (such as narrative structure, character, dialogue, etc).  Sometimes we also do writing activities, where each individual will have approximately 20 minutes to write and then share (if you want!) with our colleagues to get additional ideas about what's working.

Focus for the 7/23/13 Meeting: Telling Your Story through Memoir and Personal Essay Interested in telling your personal story through memoir or personal essay but unsure how to get started? Have you been writing personal non-fiction but found yourself at a road block?  Well, come on down and share with us as we discuss strategies for this specialized area of non-fiction writing.

I'm excited to have you come and looking forward to your contribution!  Feel free to bring a 1 page sample of your work to discuss.

Parking Information: Closest free parking - Garage at 2nd Avenue and Cameron Street, across from the Tastee Diner.  More information at http://www.silverspringdowntown.com/go/cameron-second-garage-7.

I really had a good time. I like the synergy of the group and the event host C. Grace. I especially like the exercise C. Grace gave us. This is the type of interaction I'm looking for! I want more of this b/c I enjoy brainstorming ideas in story writing.

I'm really looking fwd to getting guidance. Am a bit nervous though b/c of the unknown. At the same time I'm relieved b/c some of you have been where I am.

I live south of DC, so this is a tentative yes as that's quite a trek. But I'm definitely hoping to make it out there!
