I have lived in East Silver Spring for almost 25 years. (Love the community here.) I am taking a memoir writing class this fall at a community college. First time of trying this writing. I want to continue it when the class ends.
I would like to listen to and read the work of other writers as well as ask for feedback on mine.
I have attended two meetings and have found the writing critiques to be excellent. I understand that they have been meeting for almost five years. They have developed a process based on experience and listening to member feedback. They are providing an excellent and valuable meetup. I am impressed that the leader, Jane, organized it at the beginning and is still chairing meetups, once per month. I think the leadership team is excellent in their knowledge of writing and ability to conduct meetups. I am impressed with how Jane does one meetup per month, and the other two members of the leadership team, Glen and Phil, conduct the other meetup each month.
God I am struggling with the same issues. No one talks about men suffering abuse from their mothers, and I still have a hard time accepting that it happened instead of denying it. Why is that so hard? In my situation, my mother would come on to me when she was drunk during my childhood/adolescence. I know it happened, but still doubt myself at times that it was abuse.
