Streets from above

As suggested by Matt: Find a few publicly accessible high points with good views, and have fun capturing London and Londoners from a different perspective.

Sunset is at 9.03pm, which will give us a couple of hours to visit five locations with stunning views of key London landmarks and their surroundings.

As we're doing this in the evening, the landmarks themselves will be closed, which does mean we save on admission fees, but the odd drink may have to be bought along the way to placate bar staff.

We'll start at the most charming roof garden in the area, then aim to leave by 7.15pm, so any latecomers will miss out on our first stop! We will then head eastwards, ending with a detour to enjoy arguably the best view in Central London, hopefully in time for sunset. We'll then finish up at the Royal George at the top of Charing Cross Road for cheap(er) drinks to wrap up the evening.

It may rain for parts of the evening, but most of our locations will be indoors, so this should not affect us.

Apologies for the delay in finalising details for this - a bad combination of a very busy week, back-to-back meetups and an absence of broadband at home.

Please ensure I have your phone number, as it will be very hard to keep track of everyone otherwise; my number is 07955 861414. Please pay in cash on the day - and see you there!

Hi would like to come if weather is ok! How do I know who you all are ..will it be obvious?

    May 27

    • Farnz

I suspect that would be Elvis the Parrot who accompanied Elmo. (I think Elvis secretly fancies Elmo actually.) Pete.

      May 29

    • Chantal G.

There is no parrot, you see...

Chantal, is this still on for Wednesday? Only 2 days away but no finer details as to where we would meet so I just wondered what with it having changed date a few times. Also I have a guy who I met last month diving who is over in the UK and I'm thinking to bring him along, so whilst I've added plus one, I'm just trying to tee up the plan.

    1 · May 26

    • Chantal G.

This has not been rescheduled, as there are no tube strikes or other natural disasters planned for Wednesday :)

      1 · May 26

  • Chantal G.

I'm sorry for not posting a meeting place for this yet, I've been busy with three consecutive all-day meetups with this group and haven't had time. I'll finalise the route and meeting place tomorrow; it'll either be along the South Bank or near the city.

    1 · May 26

  • James

Looks like I shan't be able to make this one after all :(

    May 24, 2014

  • Shael

Location where we have to meet ?

    • Chantal G.

As you'll see, it hasn't been announced yet

    May 1, 2014

    • Chantal G.

One of the few perks of tube strikes ;)

      May 1, 2014

  • Tops

    Can't you guys get cars ?? :)

    2 · April 28, 2014

    • Chantal G.

Shh - or else you'll be running a taxi service for the group! :)

      1 · April 28, 2014

    • Farnz

Unfortunately all of my helicopters are in the repair shop. ;-)

      3 · April 29, 2014

  • Chantal G.

Okay, so the final talks have failed and the tube strike is going ahead, so this is getting rescheduled. I've checked the map of which services will be running, and I'll schedule something else for this evening instead.

    April 28, 2014

  • Chantal G.

I will plan an alternative event if the tube strike goes ahead, depending on what tube services are available. If this is the case, I will reschedule this for a strike-free day.

    1 · April 28, 2014

  • SH

If there is a strike, afraid I won't be able to make it. :(

    April 27, 2014

  • Pouru O.

If there's a tube sstrike there will be buses.

    1 · April 27, 2014

  • Santosh

Is the event getting rescheduled ?

    April 27, 2014

  • Shael

    Any location decided yet ?

    April 26, 2014

    • Chantal G.

Sorry - I'm snowed under with a funding application, and waiting to hear what will happen with the tube strike. I'll work out the route on Monday once the funding app has been sent off.

      April 27, 2014

    • Shael

      Ok waiting for your reply

      April 27, 2014

  • Farnz

There's a tube strike planned for the day so I'm scuppered. :-(

    April 26, 2014

    • Chantal G.

I'm living in vain hope that it'll be called off :(

Sorry Farnz - dyslexia rules in my world.

    March 6, 2014

  • Farnz

For additional accessible high view point ideas there's the Tate Modern cafeteria, Monument (one or two stairs to negotiate), The Shard (£25 ouch!), London Eye (£29.50 with 10% concession for groups of 15 ouch!), Tower Bridge Exhibition (£8), and the National Portrait Gallery Cafe for views over Trafalgar Square with coffee in hand.:-)

    1 · March 4, 2014

    • Chantal G.

Oddly, I'd thought about the London Eye as a separate event, maybe! Ouch at the cost, though!

      1 · March 5, 2014

    Looking forward

Matt, how is next Wednesday for this for you?

    March 4, 2014

    • Charlotte

This sounds interesting. I will keep my eyes peeled for updates.

      March 4, 2014

    • Chantal G.

Late April would be good, as it'll be getting dark around 8.30pm then, but I can also schedule it for a weekend until then. Thank you!
