International Pillow Fight Day

Just think. An enormous pillow fight in the centre of London... and us there, with our cameras. How is this not the perfect way to spend an afternoon? (There are only two rules, and the first one is "don't hit anyone holding a camera").

We'll meet nearby beforehand, and aim to arrive shortly in Trafalgar Square before it starts, so that we can capture some of the preparation scenes as well as the complete mayhem which will follow.

The pillow fight will last for as long as people have stamina, and the same applies to us too; we'll decamp to the Chandos (heavenly sofas upstairs!) once we've had enough.

Further details are on http://www.timeout.com/london/things-to-do/international-pillow-fight-day, and photos of last year's can be found on http://now-here-this.timeout.com/2013/04/08/in-pictures-the-great-trafalgar-square-pillow-fight-of-2013/

Obviously, tripods won't last too long, and although zoom lenses will be nice, you will get better results with a wider prime lens. Look forward to seeing you there!

Please pay in cash on the day, and my number, if you need it, is 07955 861414.

It was a bit difficult to get in close - unless one was fearless!

Hi, sorry I didn't make it to the pub post the pillow fight. My boss called me so I had to leave after. Enjoyed the scene. Looking forward to meeting some of you at the Paparazzi shoot.

It's not happening as I've seen the area has been blocked.

An update via Time Out: http://now-here-this.timeout.com/2014/04/01/ruffling-the-wrong-feathers-what-is-going-on-with-the-london-pillow-fight/; one of the Facebook groups has been contacted by the Mayor's office but is definitely planning to proceed as normal.

    1 · April 4, 2014

  • Chantal G.

As this is becoming such a large group, I've moved the meeting point to the Wetherspoons at the top of Whitehall, where we'll have more space.

Hiya, what length should the zoom lens be?

    March 25, 2014

    • Helen P.

      A 35mm or 50mm?

      March 30, 2014

    • Chantal G.

A 50mm will probably be better, but a 35mm is always handy if you have one.

      March 30, 2014

  • Helen P.

I read somewhere that you get bashed a lot even if holding a camera so I'm a bit worried about my gear. Have you heard that? Am I worrying unnecessarily?

    March 30, 2014

    • Chantal G.

It'll be best to take precautions, eg no long lenses, and not getting too close to people.

      March 30, 2014

  • Chantal G.

The organiser of one of the Facebook events has responded to say that they've not been contacted by Boris's office; they assume this is a ploy to discourage attendance and therefore reduce cleanup afterwards. They're assuming it will go ahead as planned in Trafalgar Square on the day.

    3 · March 30, 2014

    • Beverly B.

That sounds positive and plausible - who wants to take a pillow or two to Boris?

      1 · March 30, 2014

  • Chantal G.

I've found two Facebook events for the Trafalgar Square one, neither aware of Dear Boris's plans, however there is also one being held in Docklands by All Saints DLR which we could switch to instead if need be: http://chrispstreetpillowfight.tumblr.com/

UPDATE: The Mayor's office has put a spoiler on the 2014 edition of the planned flashmob, stating that: 'Different parts of the square will be closed for maintenance throughout the week, making it unsuitable and potentially unsafe for events.' Any update is this still happening?

      Boo, Boris, Boooooo!! :-(

      3 · March 28, 2014

    • Beverly B.

I am going to go find some feather pillows so we can set up our own fight! Can't believe this might be cancelled by Boo Boris! Well, actually I can unfortunately. Taxpayers pay for the cleaning up of feathers! Grumpy now!

Anything like that isn't my cup of tea really. Can imagine it's a good photo op though. So will enjoy seeing a mass of pillows everywhere.
