Canalway Cavalcade: An Annual Waterway Celebration

Basically, this sounds like the St George's Day celebrations, but much better, and with lots of boats!

Canalway Cavalcade is a unique waterways and community festival arranged by the Inland Waterways Association at Little Venice in London since 1983. (The booklet about it can be viewed at http://issuu.com/waterwaysassoc/docs/canalway_cavalcade_programme_2014)

There’ll be fun for all the family with a boaters’ gathering, a pageant of boats, trade shows and stalls, live music, kids’ activities, competitions, Morris Dancers, a real ale bar, a wide variety of snacks and food.

The day's entertainment includes:

11:00 Real Ale Bar opens (Stone Wharf)
11:30 Children’s workshop (Entertainment Marquee, Stone Wharf)
12:30 Mr Mylo, Children’s Mime Artist (Rembrandt Gardens)
13:00 Chucklefoot (Entertainment Marquee, Stone Wharf and around the site)
13:00 Morris side (Standing Sculptures, Paddington Central)
13:30 Punch and Judy (Rembrandt Gardens)
14:00 Opening Ceremony (Horse Bridge, The Pool)
14:15 Steve Strickland’s Noyze Boyze (Island Bandstand, The Pool)

14:30 Themed Pageant of boats (The Pool)
14:30 Mr Mylo, Children’s Mime Artist (Rembrandt Gardens)
15:00 Church Street Singers (Entertainment Marquee, Stone Wharf)
15:00 Morris side (Standing Sculptures, Paddington Central)
15:30 Punch and Judy (Rembrandt Gardens)
16:00 Pageant of boats returns, accompanied by Steve Strickland’s Noyze Boyze (Island Bandstand, The Pool)
16:00 Music and songs with Chucklefoot & Braunston Pickle (Entertainment Marquee, Stone Wharf)
17:00 Real Ale Bar closes (Stone Wharf)

Let's meet in Paddington station beforehand; the pub is at the top of the glassed-off section with various shops and cafes - it's the only place I know near there suitable for a group! And yes, it also has sofas.

Please pay in cash on the day, and if you need my number, it's 07955 861414. And we'll wait at the pub for around half an hour for everyone to arrive.

Many thanks to everyone who came (except for Alasdair's germs, no thanks for them!) - great to share the afternoon with you, and looking forward to seeing the photos!

Hi, I'm going to bring my small, friendly dog as he loves everyone. Don't know the pub you mention but know the sushi bar, the very good chinese restaurant etc. If you've any objections to the dog, please let me know.

Hi Kris, we're about to leave; do phone or text me on[masked] once you get here, if you're still coming.

Pencilling myself in here but I seem to be developing a cold. It's probably just a Friday afternoon work cold though.

I'll just have to remember not to sneeze on the lens. On my way now, should be 10-15 mins.

You might like to check your travel arrangements because TfL has announced 'improvement' works on the Central, Circle, District, and Northern lines, and London Overground and the DLR on Saturday and Sunday.

No I wasn't suggesting cancellation at all, just a note to help people avoid being surprised and having to re-plan their journey. :-)

I cannot make that date but I did the Cavalcade on last years August B/H.
Crowded but very colourful and enjoyable.
The man in the first picture ( in the bowler ) must be a regular as I have similar pictures already.

Dave - thanks, good to know! And so sorry you can't join us. If you've got any tips, do let us know!

I'll try to make this but it'll require some juggling. (Commitments rather than balls, knives, flaming torches, or chainsaws.) Pete.

Darn, I just arranged to do something else on Saturday. Love canal boats etc. Deep sigh.
