This is a project by Apex Club (http://www.apexsg.org/aboutapex.htm), where some volunteers will help to organise collection of newspaper, clothes, books and used household items from residents at Siglap area which will then be sold to recycled collector (which we used to call them the 'garang guni' men). The proceeds will then be used to benefit some needy families under the care of Apex Club.
We need volunteers who do not mind to roll up their sleeves, walk under the morning sun in the Siglap residence area and at the same time, shouting out to let the residents know that we are here to collect used items from them. Volunteers need to carry the items from the home and transfer to the truck which will follow us throughout. The task should not take more than 3 hours but enough to make you sweat bucket on a fulfilling morning outing.
We will normally split into three groups (and depending on the number of turnout too) and each group will then comb one designated area in the Siglap landed area. A truck will follow each group led by a leader. The residents in Siglap are aware of Apex presence as they have been picking up old items for many years now.
SANL members who are keen to provide your help, please RSVP on this event page. I will be chipping in too.
Please meet along 25 Aida Street, where there are rows of terrace houses lined on both sides of the road.
