We have had an interesting year of regular meetings, usually with around 15 people attending. The membership has changed but we now seem to be settling to a more regular small group. We have tried various locations but Tea Joy are accommodating and at least the discomfort of the small stools stops us going on too long. We can always consider a different venue, but any suggestions need to be well-researched and brought back to the meeting for group discussion.
I wanted to ask and suggest several things:
1) I have been the coordinator for a year, and I have enjoyed it (except when I felt I did not present ideas very well!) But there is no reason for me to continue in this role - please consider if you would be prepared to take it on for a year, and come to the Jan 5th meeting and let us know.
2) We have a huge number of members - over 300. Many are not really going to come. If you are not really likely to come, please withdraw your name. You can always come back! It just makes list keeping and especially contacting people more personally almost impossible with such a huge list.
3)We need to sort out making a contribution to the website costs. Around $2 a meeting would be enough. I think the sub is paid for some time in advance - I will check with the organizers.
4)Please use the MORE button on the website to vote in the Poll (on future topics) and also to up and download papers. I have put the Puzzle of Reality there and will add my own script from Sat 1st Dec. Thanks to the member who posted a reference to a paper on "Does the Universe Need God?" I found it helpful.
5) We discussed the lack of women from the last few meetings on Saturday. I am sure that this is partly a matter of different styles - men of course are more aggressive! I strongly suggest we could now consider 2 or 3 "sections" - a women's section and perhaps a "seminar" section for those who want a more academic approach. As you know, I feel strongly that discussion, however frustrating and circuitous it sometimes is, can be at least as worthwhile as studying papers. But there is room for both media.
I hope you have a good Christmas holiday. See you next year!
