THE MUNCH around the MARKET SCAVENGER HUNT --- READING TERMINAL --- Philadelphia

ARE YOU UP FOR (another) SCAVENGER HUNT?!

You can literally taste victory…

As you tackle tricky questions while sampling the best foods in the Reading Terminal and nearby Chinatown. You’ll also discover other delightful surprises in the neighborhood. Highlights include…

  • America’s oldest ice cream vendor
  • Philly’s most endangered cheesesteak (and a related gaffe by a presidential candidate)
  • a Chinatown building from the year 4668
  • the tiny towns outside the Transit Museum
  • a historic organ in an unexpected place
  • a secret beneath City Hall
  • such delightful dishes as artisanal chocolates, sinful cheesecakes, fried dumplings, soft pretzels, cappuccino, cupcakes, roast pork, moon cake, Amish baked goods, and more.

Each team needs to bring a digital camera to document your munching adventures. The price does not include food purchases, because we want you to have a wide range of options to suit your taste, your budget, and your diet. We’ll point you toward our favorites, but the ultimate choice is between you and your tummy. (You’ll probably spend less than $10.) During the winter and in the case of bad weather, this hunt will be held entirely indoors.

Fun Adventures with a Dash of Culture

The scavenger hunts uses witty, tricky questions in fast-paced games that bring out the best in a fascinating place—and the best in you and your teammates. The hunts are like walking tours spiked with caffeine. Our hunts have been acclaimed by ABC News, the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Boston Herald, the Chicago Tribune, thePhiladelphia Inquirer, and numerous other media outlets. Since 1999, more than 150,000 hunters have enjoyed our games in almost countless cities.

How the scavenger hunts work

On most of our hunts, you’re not hunting for objects (drop that pigeon!) but for answers to tricky and humorous questions about the intriguing places and objects you discover. Typically the game lasts two hours (with about half an hour more for set-up and post-hunt scoring)

No previous knowledge is required: You just need a sharp mind and comfy shoes. The best teams quickly learn that they must use the strengths of everyone in the group.

Parking at the terminal is $4 with validation. Just make sure you get it validated inside (price could be higher since I did it on a summer weekday

Don't forget that the Phila. auto show is going on so parking may be scarce.

Two hours would not be enough. May just take the train.

Linda and I are traveling by train from the WEST Trenton depot. The trains stops at Market Street East (right below the convention center). Just walk a few feet across the street and you are at the market. Train departs at 9:58 a.m. and arrives 1 hour later in Philly. Free parking at WEST Trenton train station. Go to septa.org and check it out.
