Ride & Festival of Lights!

Since 1977, the Festival of Lights Parade has brought “A Child’s Holiday Fantasy” to life for the entire Los Altos community. Originally a small gathering of a few costumed storybook characters and a jolly Santa Claus, the parade has grown over the years to a dazzling display of lighted floats, local High School marching bands, and glowing costumed characters – although Santa with his sleigh and reindeer remains the star of the show!

Today, more than 17,000 people of all ages gather the first Sunday after Thanksgiving to watch the Parade, one of the most popular Los Altos events of the year.

Join us for a quick ride and lunch in the Redwoods/Coastline. Then we'll be back in time for the 6pm Festival of Lights Parade in Downtown Los Altos. Meetup will be at 11:30 for caffeine and socializing. Mandatory Safety talk at 11:50am - you must be present by then to ride.

Route: will be only 90 miles but there will be a couple gas/bio stops

Late Lunch: Pescadero Country Store

Oh yes I know now which one you were!! I commented that I would do good riding straight but circling the group could be a bit tricky -very impressive riding!!!

Thank you. It comes from over 400,000 miles on two wheels with an engine and starting early. Some of the first of these parades I was in, we all just rode straight, dragging our feet (too slow not to) only looking at the crowd and waving. One day, on a slower than usual parade, I got board and started some quick weaves at slow speeds. A couple years after that, Roger on the white bike started circling everyone and I started following him around. That started getting everyone else moving around a bit too.

Another successful run, Roger! Any way I can get the route listing? I don't see it - or a link to it - on the page.

Stuart, the link is "route:" just under the red sentence about the safety talk.

This was a very enjoyable ride. Scenic twisties, good company, and a parade to boot.

The fog lifted and the roads dried out along the coast. A great ride and a fun lunch with friends with the 49er game in the background. Los Altos put on a great Xmas nighttime parade. Thanks everyone for sharing the day with me.

I also plan to cage it to the parade only, hope to see some of you there! :)

Hi, everyone. Please park behind Peet's coffee. There is a back parking lot there and a little bit more room. Well be staging there. Please arrive with your gas tanks full (there's a Chevron just a block or so away). Bring layers, maybe a bit nippy by the time of the parade and your ride home.

If you go to see the parade..... You will see me in it. I will be one of the black GL1800 Wings with all of the Christmas lights on it..... If space allows for it, I will be making some sharp low speed turns. GWRRA CA-2S has been in it for many years. Last Year's parade was the only one in several years I have missed.
