Lunch then Card Games 2 Thurs of Month @ City Diner, just outside Alex

Last month, it was decided that we will have a regular, standing place for lunch and a few games of cards.  Of course, you can come for lunch only, but we are hoping to gather more people that want to play cards on a regular basis.  We are lucky to have found a place that will allow us to do this in this day and age.

We'll start first by meeting monthly, until we gather more members.  We'll probably then move to every two weeks.  It appears like we'll start with a couple of variations of rummy, but the group will decide by majority as it moves along.  Beginning next month April, this gathering will always be set on the second Thursday of each month.  So mark your calendars now!

When you RSVP, the system will ask if you are staying to play cards. I only ask, as a courtesy to me, and those that are attending, that if your plans change, that you change your RSVP by 48 hours prior the the date.

The Venue.  The restaurant is a friendly, casual neighborhood diner with quite a large menu.  The size of the menu is especially good for people coming on a regular basis.  I have some favorite dishes there.  There will be plenty of parking, probably close to the door, during the day.

Directions.  If you are coming from Alexandria, travel west on King street, go under the overpass (train tracks?) at the end of old town, bear right and continue on King for a mile or two.  Pass Quaker and Bradlee shopping center on your left.  Cross over 395 and continue.  Pass Beauregard St with a TGIF on your left.  Pass George Mason and then just past Carlyn Springs, it is on your right.

If you are coming from the 395, take 395 north and get off on King Street west, and continue as above.  If you are coming from further out, you might take Rt 50 east to Leesburg Pike east, to your right, and come down about 2 1/2 miles.  The Diner will be on your left.

Does it matter if one does not know the card game?

No. If you don't know the game we decide to play we will teach you. One that I like is shanghai rummy, also known as contract rummy. It is fun and not very difficult.

We are just getting off the ground so it's basically up to who ever shows up to decide on a mutually agreeable game to play.

I think this is a great idea and I would love to come. However, I have an appointment. Hopefully I will attend next time.

What type of card games do you play? Is your group set up to show newbies how to play (not meaning Bridge) whatever game you choose that day?

It would be fun to do this again, though it maybe better for the evening as so many work,

Thanks for your thoughts. The primary purpose if this event is to play cards after lunch. So far, those interested have not all been available on the date scheduled in order to start playing. It would be good in the.evenings, althoughbsime would be.tired and not feel like playing, or even better, during the day on the weekend

Oops! Got away from me. But it wiule be extremely difficult to find a restaurant that wiuld let you sit for a few hours and play cards at a time when they are busiest. If you know of a place, please let me know by emailing me directly to my email by clicking on my name. If you are speaking of just a regular place to eat, let me know that also. Thanks.
