One of your organizers, David is hosting Walleyball at Maplewood Community Center.
We are listed on a couple sites so don't let the lack of numbers fool you. Whether we were indoors playing WALLYBALL or out doors in the SAND, we have a good core group that is very welcoming of newcomers.
It's time to take our game into the climate controlled environment of our indoor courts for the season of wallyball. We are a great group of players from various groups that are very warm and welcoming to newcomers.
Walleyball is Volleyball with a twist. We play on a racquetball court with a net strung across. The rules are simple and the same as Volleyball, with the difference is you can hit it off the wall. We play you can't hit the ceiling or 2 walls in combination, so it is more about finesse, than power.
Our game is laid back and can be kind of "slap ball". We use a ball that is softer and more of a equalizer for all skill levels. If your a "purist" of Walleyball, you might find yourself taking a step down in your competitive nature.
What we may lack in prowess, we make up for in our sociability. Our focus is to have some fun and exercise amongst friends. I have been doing this for about 2 years, and we find the modifications, along with the RIGHT mindset on it's participants, really encourages the beginner as well as the experienced to have a great night of fun!! We know we are doing it right when most points end in LAUGHTER rather than a victory yell.
There are 2 courts, so we sardine them in there and will play as many as 6 to a side, but we will rotate players if there is a need. The cost is but 2-4 dollars per person, pretty inexpensive for 2 hrs of court time.
Afterward we meet for a drink and food, to extend our social Mixer. We have chosen Jake's City Grill on Beam Ave near Maplewood Mall.
I would encourage you to join us for a chance to get know each other. Some can't make the games, but know to find us after 8:15'ish for the social mixer. Let me know in your RSVP.
