3C Black Mtn via Hidden Villa

10 miles and 2700' elevation change This hike has about 85% canopy but can still be challenging in hot weather. Lots of elevation change offering a wonderful 360 degree view of the area at the top. Carry as much water as possible, extra is even better. No water or pottys along the trail. Bring a lunch. Heavy rain cancels. Moderate to fast pace. If HEAT proves to be a problem I will cut the hike back to a 2B turning around at the Quarry trail junction. Shorter hike is 8 Miles and 2200' Directions: From 280 go W on El Monte / Moody Rd. Keep L at the fork, L onto Moody Rd. 1.8 miles to Hidden Villa entrance on L. $5 parking fee (no passes) Meet at 8:45 to leave at 9:00. Carpools: Los Gatos 8:15 (Leader), Page Mill 8:30. Leader: Jim Huffman GPS: 26870 Moody Rd, Los Altos Hills.

What a wonderful hike! Thanks everybody fro showing up and hiking with me. 13 hikers made it at 9 and four hikers didn't get the time change but still hiked and still enjoyed it.

Beat the Heat, by starting an hour earlier. We still may cut the hike short if "HOT" proves to be a problem but at least we can get up to that point by starting early.

I'm looking at a less then favorable long range forecast. If this turns out to be a 90 degree trek through the forest, I may scale the hike back to prevent heat stroke from taking people out. I'm not in the mood to call for an evacuation helicopter. We will lunch at and turnaround at the Quarry Trail junction if I perceive we are having problems with the heat. j=)

    Hi Jim,

I hiked Half Dome but it's been quite a while. I'm concerned that I may not make the whole walk. I'm a moderately-paced hiker and have done about 9 miles in the past year so this would be a stretch. Could you offer some advise?

Hi Shelly, My advice is for you to come out and try it. The return path is very straight forward so you can always option out. jim

K, I just emailed you without looking at your posting here. Of course you are good to go on this hike. I hope your friend is equally qualified. The first part of this hike is very steep and will let me know if you are able to keep up or not. If not, it is a very easy return back. Please do not carpool as you may want to have your car available in case you feel the pace is to tough. I have a feeling that our pace will suit you very well. j=)
