Strenuous.  This ten mile "grand loop" begins at the main entrance off Skyline Blvd. We'll traverse both sides of the canyon, descending on the steep North Ridge and Whitmore Gulch Trails down to the Creek for lunch and returning on the more gradual Purisima Creek, Soda Gulch (now called the Craig Britten Trail), and Harkins Ridge Trails. Directions: From Skyline and Hwy 92 drive 4.3 miles south, from Skyline and Hwy 84 drive 7.8 miles north to the North (Main) parking lot.  Carpools: Palo Alto 9:15, Los Gatos 9:00.  Leader: Ed Martin GPS:  13100 Skyline Blvd, redwood City, [masked],-122.338729.

Hi. This is my first hike with this group. I hike Windy Hill about once a week (plus shorter mid-week walks). Is this hike about the same level as Windy Hill or Wunderlich to Skyline? I'm wondering whether I should join the Wunderlich group for my first time out, or if this will be better for me. Can you also give me an idea about your pace?

Hi. Because I didn't hear back, I am switching to the wunderlich hike for tomorrow. See you at the potluck!

Good move Patricia. I'm on the road for the next few weeks so sometimes I have web access and sometimes not which limits my ability to reply and advise, sorry.

It is easy to do and we try to make the directions clear for even new comers. If you let me know what would have helped, then email me.

All of our carpools and directions to them, are listed on our website

    http://lp.sierraclub.org/SA/carpool.html

Just note that our carpool times are "Leave Times" not "Meet Times."

In another words, if the Car pool time is 9:15 and you arrive at 9:16, the car pool would have already left.

If nobody is at the carpool, and it is 9:15, then proceed to the trail head.

Ed Martin has been hiking with us for years. This is his first shot at leading a Singleaires hike picking one of our best and most scenic areas for his inaugural hike. Ed is a strong hiker and this is a "strenuous" hike. If you struggle on hikes of less then 7 miles and 1200 feet, you will want to avoid this one.
