Ottawa-Gatineau’s Singles Outdoors Club (SOC) is the best way to build new skills & friendships with other singles who enjoy nature and adventure. Our club runs singles events & courses to connect you with those like you. Each activity has a social, enabling members to get to know one another. Although some date, the primary focus is on building a community of friends around shared a lifestyle & skills. Either way, it works.

Commit, by signing up for one of our events right now! Also, volunteer to host an outing, such as a hike, paddle, bike, or ski trip to share your knowledge and energy. For more information, email the coordinator.

SOC is a no-profit networking club run by volunteers. Event prices cover costs only.

HOW IT WORKS:

We develop a network of new singles through personal development opportunities. Our system is as follows:

- Provide stimulating experiences where people can meet one another doing fun and interesting things (e.g. courses, events).
- Provide repetition, to allow people to reconnect, build friendships and community.
- Provide learning opportunities to develop outdoors and leadership skills.
- Support those who want to organize outdoors events for our members.

This simple system works for those who participate, so sign-up today for an event. Only through your participation, will this work for you too.

MEMBERSHIP:

Singles in their 20s to 50s, who are physically capable of moderate to intense physical activities. Some activities require a higher degree of fitness and skills than others. This means that our members share a keen interest in physical fitness and health that sets them apart from the general population.

CLUB ACTIVITIES:
- Outdoor recreation (canoeing, hiking, camping, rowing, sailing, skiing, snowshoeing, etc.)
- Sports & fitness (outdoor sports teams, running, and fitness conditioning)
- Socials (these follow all activities)
- Outdoor education
- Cultural
- Community development, and
- Networking.

We encourage all single people who enjoy nature and outdoor activities to join our fun. This is a great way to stay fit, experience new activities, learn, and meet new people. No other outdoors club focuses on the needs of singles like we do. No other organization has as many singles who enjoy the outdoors. And, no other singles outdoors organization provides such quality events at relatively inexpensive prices.

Top 10 reasons why SOC makes sense:

1. You get to meet single people while getting exercise.
2. Being outdoors is healthier and safer than indoors in front of a computer or tv.
3. You get to join a group of people you are likely to get along with by doing things you love.
4. You get to know a variety of people over a several events and not just one.
5. Outdoors singles often have other shared interests and values, beyond just a love of outdoors.
6. You can develop new skills and interests.
7. You can develop a group of friends for years to come who enjoy similar things.
8. There is no reason to be alone, when there is always some event to go to each week.
9. Life is too short not to hang out with other singles, when you are single.
10. The club can adapt to your needs and interests, by your participation and feedback.

WHY SHOULD I PAY TO GO ON A HIKE?

Some say they can hike for free anytime and we agree. There is nothing stopping anyone to take a hike on their own. We just prefer to do it with other singles and this costs time & money to plan, promote, correspond, coordinate carpooling, and recruit new members to participate. Most singles understand this and appreciate the value of our efforts. Volunteers who organize events, hike free because we too value the contributions of our members.

ALTERNATIVES TO PAYING TO ATTEND EVENTS:

Volunteer to run an event! Discounts and free credits towards other events go to those who volunteer to host or plan events. This rewards & helps those on a limited budget.

VOLUNTEERING:

Volunteering in our club is a great way to meet more people and share your knowledge. When you join, you are welcome to help build our outdoors club by helping to plan and host events / courses. Because we aim to keep costs low, we rely heavily on volunteers to build our network of singles who enjoy outdoor recreation.

** Please note: All events have an element of risk inherent in all outdoors activities. This club provides networking opportunities only and cannot assume risk. We expect all members to exercise caution and demonstrate personal responsibility.

“Most of my friends are either in relationships and/or are not into physical activity like I am, so I end up doing a lot of stuff by myself. It would therefore be great to meet new people who also like to be active outdoors to do stuff with.”
