We are running a review of our Jive Workshop from last Saturday over the next 4 weeks, which will imbed the routine we learned into our brains. Afterwards, you have the opportunity to continue taking weekly Jive dance lessons at this same time.  You can pay for this one session or in one lump sum of $60 if you want to take the four sessions over 4 weeks combined.

Imagine being able to dance to all kinds of Rock, Disco, Swing, Country, Rockabilly, and Blues in just one day? You can, if you join us to learn jive swing dancing to adapt to many forms of music.

Jive combines Lindy Hop (the original form of swing dance) and East Coast Swing and is suitable for many kinds of North American music.

Why singles should learn? Funabalu has discovered that Ottawa's swing dance scene is one of the best subcultures around for singles to meet one another, while learning new dance steps. Every weekend, hundreds get out to learn and practice. It's fun fitness too, inexpensive compared to other social outings, and is a happy diversion from reality.  Those who say Ottawa is boring, aren't engaged in our swing dance culture. This is your chance to discover why Ottawa is the most fun community to live in for those who know how to enjoy it.

Jive, according to Wikipedia:

In Ballroom dancing, Jive is a dance style in 4/4 time that originated in the United States from African-Americans in the early 1930s. It was originally presented to the public as 'Jive' in 1934 by Cab Calloway. It is a lively and uninhibited variation of the Jitterbug, a form of Swing dance.

Workshop Objective: If you decide to take just this workshop alone, it should provide you a full routine you can use for years to come. It will also prepare you for our weekly Intermediate Jive Dance program starting on March 12. After our workshop, you are invited to come out regularly as we dance at the hippest swing dances around with lots of friendly people eager to be your partner.

Meet your goal to learn swing dancing this winter with other singles. Imagine having the confidence to join other singles at a variety of swing dance outings around town this Winter.

Your goal is closer than you think, when you join our intensive 4 hour swing dance workshop, to learn a full swing dance routine you can use immediately afterwards.  If you started dance lessons this Fall and Winter and want to get to the next level sooner, then this is a must workshop to ensure you achieve your objective.

Why dance?

It is a scientific fact that dance is truly one of the the best ways for men and women to connect.  Many of us were born of parents who met on the dance floor!  Ottawa's Swing Dance community is one of the most friendliest groups to connect with, where people readily invite each other onto the dance floor to enjoy great music.  If you haven't come out yet, you are missing a great scene.

Swing is a fantastic dance on its own or one that you can build from to take other variations that are used for modern dance music in night clubs.  Men are coming back to dance these days, as the NHL hockey lock-out is channeling our love of sport into dance as a combination of sport and socializing.
