Snowshoeing & Chinese Restaurant after! *Free to Winter Program members

Come snowshoe at Parc du Lac-Beauchamp. There's a new snowshoeing trail through a forested nature conservation area within the City of Gatineau that we are going to explore. This trail is a good warm-up for future outings throughout the winter in other parts of our region.  It has an interesting mix of flat and inclines sections, along a lake and up a bluff created along an ancient earthquake fault line. You may see deer and other critters, plus lots of singles.  Afterwards, you are welcome to join us as we head to the Latern de Szechwan Restaurant for apres snowshoe social and meal.  This is what winter is all about, a chance to burn off calories, socialize, and enjoy a good meal as our reward.

Meeting place at park below pavilion at picnic tables in park. Trail head nearby.  Or, you can meet us in Pointe-Gatineau earlier and convoy to this spot together.

Please note: Bring your own snowshoes or rentals (see stores below), water, snack, and warm clothes (layered). Bring money for the Chinese Restaurant (quite affordable), if you are coming for that too.

ITINERARY:

1:30 pm - Car pooling convoy departs from Chateau Savage 1191 Jacques Cartier Blvd, Gatineau, QC, J8T 2W3 (if you miss us here, proceed to Parc du Lac-Beauchamp AT 741 Maloney Blvd. East, Gatineau, QC  beside Pavillion near the snow slide).

2:00 pm snowshoeing departs from picnic table area underneath the Pavillion located between P1 and Lac Beauchamp.  This is the last parking lot at the end of the road beside the snow slide and Pavillion.

Snowshoeing is approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.

4:00 pm or earlier we head to Latern de Szechwan Restaurant at 1115 Saint-Louis, Gatineau, QC[masked] www.lanterneszechwan.com .

FEE:

- Free to Winter Activities Club members
- $20 to non-members (You can pay online when you RSVP to this event or pay $20 cash to Rob at the start of the snowshoe. The membership fee allows you to attend about 100 events for free in our Winter Program just for singles, including snowshoeing, skiing, skating, socials, and more; covering the cost of planning and hosting Ottawa's most active winter activities club around.)

RENTALS:

It seems the park's snowshoe rental service is not yet open in early January and Funabalu doesn't have enough pairs for everyone. Please rent your own snowshoes or buy some new or used atPlay It Again Sports or Sport Echange in Gatineau where they have a snowshoe deal for $60 which should last you years.  Other places to rent or buy include Sport Experts, Le Baron, Trailhead, Sail, Mountain Equipment Coop.

Rob, do you need more people to go to "Chateau Sauvage" to drive others? If so, I'll go there. If not, I'll see you at the park.

Sorry I didn't make it. My car slid on an icy patch and got damaged. Had to go to the garage. :(

I have never snowshoed before...is it difficult. I am in reasonably good shape (cardio), but don't want to bit off more than I can chew and be the slow poke. Sounds like fun though...let me know.

    Hi John

Any suggestions where I could rent snowshoes? I've never snow shoed before either and wouldn't have a clue what to buy? Debra

They have cheap rentals at the park or you can also rent from Trailhead or MEC. I will bring a couple of extra pairs too. Play It Again Sports and the Sports Echange (in Gatineau) also have deals on snowshoes.
