Earth Matters Art Exhibition & After Party/Fundraiser for Fistula Foundation

ITINERARY

2-2:30 PM - Meet in 1st Floor Lobby of National Museum of African Art for socializing & brief presentation about Fistula Foundation.

3:30ish PM - After Party @ National Gallery of Art Cascades Cafe/Espresso & Gelato Bar - Concourse Level.

EARTH MATTERS EXHIBITION

Looking through the lens of Africa, Earth Matters focuses on the very creative and visual ways in which individuals and communities negotiate complex relationships with the land beneath their feet and the earth at large.

FISTULA FOUNDATION - $10 SUGGESTED DONATION

Fistula Foundation plays a vital, unique role to help women who suffer from fistula receive life-transforming surgery.

Fistula is an injury that devastates lives of women in the world’s poorest countries and most rural areas where mothers still deliver babies without medical help. A woman enduring prolonged, unrelieved obstructed labor nearly always loses her baby. If she survives, she is often subjected to yet another horror – obstetric fistula – rendering her incontinent and uncontrollably leaking urine and wastes. Untreated, these women are often deserted by their husbands and shunned by their communities. Treated, she can live a healthy, productive life.

While $450 isn't enough for one night's stay in most hospitals in the US, it is enough to provide one woman with restorative surgery and postoperative care in developing countries in Africa and South Asia.

If 45 attendees at the Meetup each donate $10, then Singles Soirees 40 & Up! will give back to one woman her dignity.

Hi, I'm still a bit unsure on how to email the organizer Sheryl. Please kindly tell her I will make my Fistula donation online this Friday when I will have more financial liquidity, I hope that's not too late. Thank you very much. I enjoyed my visit to The Smithsonian Museum of Aftican Art but would have enjoyed it much more if I could have arrived when the group was scheduled to meet at 2pm. Please let Sheryl know. Thank you.

Dear Organizer; I got here close to 4pm and everyone had left according to the guard. I am now just outside this amazing Museum of African Art. I did stay and visited The Earth Matrers exhibit at length. I am impresed with the museum and wish to return with fellow meet ups or friends. Please send me the address or website for The Fistula Foundation so I may make a donation. The security guard told me I missed you all by 20 minutes. I feel horrible that I missed a social gathering for such a fine cause. Please continue to have like minded exhibits and please send me the address or website to donate for The Fistula Foundation. The guard said there was no reception In the Lecture hall. Where did you meet at The Africa American Museum? You may reach me at[masked] or you have my email, correct?

On part of the western portion of the Red line, the line is down to one track for several stops, so you will be delayed and have to wait while the train from the other direction is on the single track part. Allow extra time if traveling from Rockville/Bethesda area,

Hello Jeryl will you have some donation forms there for us to fill out should they be needed?

    Thanks ever so much.

    January 25, 2014

    • R. Shoshana N. M.

Sorry about the two previous blank posts. This space is limited and my thumbs are big! What I attempted to ask Jeryl is how does one download a photo of oneself from their Apple 3G 4S IPhone? I am clueless on the modus operandi of submitting a photo from an iPhone. Thank you in advance. I look forward to attending and supporting the cause. Regards, New member Shoshana

Hi Tom, Yes, you may pay at the event. I will ask you to provide me with your contact info so Fistula Foundation can properly acknowledge your donation.

The Fistula Foundation is a really wonderful, small charity, doing very impactful work (I think, I'm a fan and supporter.) This Holiday Season, you can donate as little as $10 to them directly and either receive yourself or have a card sent to someone. http://www.fistulafoundation.org/ - Last year I met the head of the organization, Kate Grant, and she is quite dymanic & very committed.

Thanks for the information you have shared Nancy.

How do we make the payment of $10? Will it be collected at the door, or is there a link?

    1 · December 6, 2013

    • Jeryl

Either way is fine for tax purposes. You will receive a letter from Fistula either way. They are helping me with the event.

      1 · December 29, 2013

      Thanks for your reply Jeryl.
