After last Sunday's brunch event, I realize that some clarification is in order. As most of you know, Singles on Sailboats is a club, separate from the Meetup group. The club has over 700 members, spread over the Upper Chesapeake Bay area and beyond. It organizes day sails and weekend cruises during the season (April - Nov), and a wide variety of social/educational activities all year long.
We use the Meetup website to announce events open to the public. Primarily, these are the Happy Hours hosted throughout the membership area. They are fun in their own right, and a chance for people with similar interests to meet our members, perhaps consider joining the club.
I should note that club members will attend without an RSVP through Meetup. That means that attendance will always exceed the RSVP count, usually several times over. Anybody is welcome, no reservation necessary, no cover charge, and it's a cash bar.
We also host a series of brunches Nov thru March. Nov 11 was the first of those this year. The drill here is very different than the Happy Hours.
They are typically held at the Doubletree Hotel in Annapolis. Since capacity is limited, registration is strongly recommended, and must be done through the club website, www.singlesonsailboats.org. The cost is $30, includes the meal. Drinks during the Social Hour are pay-as-you-go. A speaker or other entertainment is always included, usually with a nautical theme.
Here again, attendance will greatly exceed the Meetup RSVP count. For example, we got 9 Meetup RSVP's for yesterday's event, total attendance exceeded 100.
I hope this clarifies things a bit, and I'll be seeing you at future events. I'll try to make future Meetup announcements more explicit on these points.
