From Roy "Hi Dave

It looks like we have 11 people plus yourself for the weekend which is fine by me. I've attached a list of payments received to date, if you could ask everybody to pay their balance before the 15thy that would be great.

My colleague Steve will be here to meet everybody from 5pm onwards on the Friday. I suggest we go for dinner at 7pm?

Many thanks

Roy

Roy Davies, Elan Valley Lodge Ltd."

This is getting closer - can you please confirm your attendance or remove yourselves from the list, whichever applies.

We are running this on 45nSingle site as well so the numbers just on this site are not quite accurate.

These are the people I know of so far

Alvin, Andy, Gill, Lieve, me, Nick, jean, Caron, Jonathan, Elizabeth (2), Jilly, Liz

Please put a reference on the back of the cheque or on the transfer "Activity Weekend 15th August" and post a message on here so that I can tally up the numbers.

Have a look on the "photos" page under Elan Valley where I have posted a few photos from last time. I have managed to misplace the others, will put them up when I find them.

We did this 2 years ago and everyone who came on it came away with a buzz to last a lifetime. I will put links to photos later......

Based in the Elan Valley, Wales, jut like the Lake District but without the crowds.

This weekend will be a short full on experience.

It is designed to be all inclusive.

It will start with a Friday evening getting to know each other, play silly games and have a few drinks and laughs. Three course dinner, everyone has to muck in with serving and clearing away - all part of the team building.

The suggested itinerary can be varied (see options below) but I suspect we will start with a short rock climb and abseil on Saturday morning.

A packed lunch is provided probably eaten back at the centre. The packed lunch last time  was fruit, biscuits and sandwiches - you fill in your sandwich choices in the morning ie - brown, white, salad, beef and they are made to your request.

Saturday afternoon will be having a go in Indian canoes then back to the shore to build a raft. Having done so, we will have a race.

Evening will be back at the lodge. Tired? maybe - buzzing - yes. 3 course dinner followed by lots of buzz and fun

Sunday morning - a simple orienteering expedition followed by archery for beginners.

The centre has had people without legs and in wheelchairs do the abseiling. everything in this weekend is designed to be all inclusive for everyone. There will be a few people who simply can't do some bits but we will not allow you to drown, fall of a cliff.

We all will support you through any experience you find difficult.

Cost £210 to include a single room with mostly ensuite facilities, 2 dinners, 2 lunches, 2 breakfasts and activities to be decided. There are a few rooms with shared facilities, first to book has preference for single facilities . There will be a small discount for people sharing rooms.

Here's what Elan lodge say about themselves.................

These weekends are full of challenging fun for all ages. You don’t need any experience or need to be super fit. Our staff are relaxed and friendly and will support you in a reassuring way to make sure that everyone gets as much as possible from the weekend. Just come along and give it a go, you will be using the best equipment available today in one of the most stunning locations in the UK. These weekends are really popular with social clubs, groups of friends or families, choose your own programme from the following:-

Rock climbing & Abseiling, from total beginner to expert our crag has it all.
High Ropes Challenges, can you take “the leap of faith”?
Canadian Canoeing on one of the most beautiful reservoirs in Wales.
Build your own rafts and compete in inter team races.
Hill walking, the wilderness is on our doorstep!
Orienteering, a map reading challenge in the forest.
Archery, great fun, you’ll get totally absorbed.

Easy to get to, but with a real “away from the crowds” feel about it. The Elan Estate is a little known area of spectacular scenery, one of the few remaining unspoilt areas of Britain. All our activities are within a few minutes of the Lodge which offers you the only 5 star activity accommodation in the UK. Stunning food, licensed bar and really great single or twin en-suite rooms along with our fantastic activities will make it a weekend to remember.

Your weekend includes:-
Three activity sessions of your choice with first class equipment and expert instruction.
Two nights’ bed and full breakfast in excellent single or twin en-suite bedrooms.
Two days packed lunches.
Fantastic home cooked three course evening meals.
Endless tea/coffee and biscuits or delicious home made cake.
The most fun you’ve had in ages.

Remember the Lodge is the only en-suite 5 star activity accommodation in the UK!

Suggested programme for 2014

Based on approximately 20 participants:-

Arrive at the Lodge for dinner on Friday evening settle into accommodation and welcome.

Saturday morning
Tree tops challenge, zip line and the leap of faith. These high ropes activities were new in 2012 and have been extremely popular.

Saturday afternoon
Those that would like to try Kayaking take to the water whilst the rest of the group walk to explore the stunning scenery in the Elan Valley. The whole group then meet up for an inter team race on home built rafts.

Sunday morning
Inter team orienteering competition in our local forest. Teams choose how they score their points, some go for distance whilst others go for the more easily accessible checkpoints.
We the round the weekend off with an archery session.

Depart after lunch

Had a great weekend. Thanks to Dave for organising. As a newcomer was made to feel most welcome and soon felt part of the group. Activities were challenging and fun, body still recovering. Socialising in the evening was inclusive and entertaining. Feel I now have eleven new friends.

Licenced Honesty Bar - means there is a fridge stocked with beer and red and white wine. Simply note in the book next to it what you have taken and your name. Settle up at the end of the stay.

The area is quite stunning. No need to head straight off home if you don't want to. Visit the Elan Valley visitor centre, the red Kite feeding station, take a drive aroind the reservoirs or simply take a walk up the hills.

When it gets nearer the time do you all car share ???

    March 11, 2014

    • Dave E.

Yes, we need to find some way of doing that.

      April 9, 2014

I have the weekend reserved but people are still finding it is too far away to commit. I have people coming from the 45nSingle group which I organise too. I am getting people drop in and out which makes things awkward. Would be great if people who want to drop out do so now. Thanks.

Sorry folks, it looks like I'm going to be in Edinburgh that week, so I won't be able to make it after all. Caron, perhaps your guest could take my spot?

I've added myself plus one, if that's ok but it would be 2 single rooms required. If due to number of members wanting to go & a guest isn't possible, would fully understand &can change my RSVP to just me.
    Thanks

Thanks for all the support everyone. I said it would take a few months to get this rolling but we have interest from about a dozen people for the adventure weekend. I think we need 15 to make it a goer but that is now looking like we can easily achieve that.

    • Alexis

I'm keen to return to Elan Valley but at the moment I don't know when I will be taking my holiday next summer

      November 1, 2013

  • Andrew S.

is a provisional yes from me at this stage - dependent on final itinery!

    October 24, 2013

    • Dave E.

are there things you do / don't want to do Andrew? I'm not keen on the ropes myself. You don't of course have to do everything. Last time most people gave everything a try and the amazing thing was the support everyone gave to everyone else.

      October 28, 2013

    • Andrew S.

nope - I'm up for most things - in terms of itinery what I meant was dates and whether anything else gets in my diary before these get confirmed. thanks
