Deadfall Lakes backpack trip

Beginner friendly easy backpack. Saturday thru Sunday July 27th and 28th. Approx . 2 1/2 miles one way on a mostly level and at times a very slight climb, trail. Starts at the Parks Creek summit trailhead. Carpooling from Yreka at Aprox 9am. Start at the Parks Creek Summit trailhead at 10 am Sat . We will depart the trailhead and head up the PCT toward The Deadfall lakes basin. On the way back on Sunday we will hike down the creek to the meadows. (We will leave one car at the meadows and one car at the Summit) There is an option for some off trail hiking on the way to the meadows also if anyone wants to do that.

Directions to the Trailhead: On Interstate 5 drive north 3.4 miles beyond the Weed turnoff and take the Edgewood/Gazelle exit. Go under the freeway, turn right at the stop sign, and after 0.3 mile turn left onto Stewart Springs Road. At 4.7 miles, right before Stewart Springs, turn right onto Forest Road 17, also known as Parks Creek Road. Park at the large trailhead clearing at Parks Creek Pass, 13.7 miles from the freeway exit.

*The trip organizer is a volunteer and NOT a real leader (i.e. not liable for the group). Think of it as hiking with a group of friends.

A great Backpack with a bit of weather adventure. Sat afternoon we had some thunder storms and hail. Good way to check out the new tent , It passed. Good thing Kit and Michael were off Mt Eddy by that time.

I read the lightning strikes caused 23 fires in the Klamath Nat'l Forrest. Fortunately none were real big. I'm glad you guys didn't get caught in a bad situation.

Sorry I will not be making it. I did some pondering, but I think I am all camped out for this weekend...work camping did me in. And I /so/ want to go to Deadfall Lakes! First I missed the straight hike, and now the overnighter.

Dont forget the bug repellent. Heard from someone who was there last week, the black flies are biting.

Everyone have fun. I'm going with the PCT trail maintenance group in October for a long weekend of trail work and fun. The trail work that I helped with from Gumboot to the 'road' going north turned out nice. Enjoy the trails.

As of today There are no takers for the Yreka carpool so I will meet everyone at the trailhead at 10am.

Shook the cobwebs out of the ol tent last week for a 3 day BP to Russian wilderness. My gear is ready to go AND got a new 2 pound tent for this trip.

I've very tentative about this hike at the moment. I'll have just finished a big all-week work thing that involves camping and other things...and if I go will very much depend on how well I can recharge on my Friday off.

Still, this is a place I definitely would like to go.

Bummer, I'd like to do this but I'm having my "50th" birthday bash on this day. Maybe another time... :) Corey told me to sign up for your meetup group.
