I had heard about “Massive"/"Elbrus" a.k.a “Sitecore 7” since end of 2008. I was disappointed by what I saw during the meeting. It can’t even be called beta: this is just an incremental upgrade to Sitecore 6, which showed up five years ago, rather than a complete overhaul of the system, framework, UI and user usability. The Sitecore 7 upgrade doesn’t try hard help solve the technical challenges facing today’s development world. Realistically speaking, Sitecore 7 will be ready for use in production by 2015+ at earliest , and so until then I recommend to stick with Sitecore 6.x and say adios to 7 till forceable future.

Not only can you use ID's but now you are able to use queries as part of a fields datasource. Sitecore 7 brings a lot to the table.

Hope to see you all April 24 for our session on Responsive Design & Sitecore.

Jeez, I wouldn't say to avoid it altogether. I would say that they're working on making the large sets of data searchable and much easier to search and if you need/want those features you should consider phasing it in sooner than later. There may be a period of time where the product will be in flux due to the unseen uses of clients and bugs with new new features but Sitecore is pretty up front about not saying a release is "recommended" until they think it's good for the mainstream users. I think the faster people start working with it the quicker it will improve but if you're system is working well for you then you're in no hurry.

In Vegas, I got into a long argument with the man at the roulette wheel over what I considered to be an odd number.

    Hi Guys,

I'm new to Sitecore. I'm hoping to get a general overview. Going to check out Dan's overview article for starters.

There are a lot of great tutorials online, but I think the best thing is to download and play around with a copy of Sitecore. Get the feel for it, great product.
