I'm looking forward to talking with people who currently use Sitecore and their experiences. We're new to it and are continuing to work on implementation. We need to be able to set a future publish date, publish items-not the site, and create workflows that control when and how something is published. I don't know if part of the challenge is how we set up the servers but it would be great to talk to someone about best practices. I'm looking forward to the next meeting, which I hope is sooner than 3 months from now.

It could be the topic for next user group meeting. As far as the frequency is concerned, we are still working on it. Meantime if you have any question, feel free to post on user group on linked in. The group name is "Sitecore User Group - SF Bay Area & Northern California
Sitecore User Group - SF Bay Area & Northern California". Everything you described except the custom workflow can be achieved out-of-the-box within Sitecore.
