Skeptics of Tucson Monthly Meetup

What's the Harm is a great website and it shows a lot of instances where people are harmed individually by a lack of Skepticism. But, it doesn't talk about superstition's cost to us, all of us. Therefore, we should discuss this issue. How does other peoples' lack of Skepticism cost society?

Have you heard of Tetraphobia? How about the related Triskaidekaphobia and friggatriskaidekaphobia? These phobias have social costs. In other words, it not sufficient to just be Skeptical, we must also consider spreading Scientific Skepticism to others for everyone's ultimate benefit.

Can you think of other pseudoscience nonsense that cost everyone, even those that don't believe in them?

Here's is the question, "Should we be proselytizing Skepticism?"

We should always have 13 people attend when we are discussing superstition.

I would also suggest there is a notion of "skeptophobia" and one of "scientophobia" as well. Some of our closest skeptical and atheist friends may suffer from these fears if pressed to the limit. Perhaps I do as well.

OK. We can include those phobias in the discussions as well.

Hello Don, I'd love to come but I'm a truck driver and can't commit just yet. Certainly, would enjoy hearing some good skepticism! :))

Welcome to the group, Miles. Don't worry about not making the meeting, there will be others.

Hello! I am interested in becoming a member but must attend this meeting strictly as an observer for academic purposes. Would this be okay with the group? Thank you! Stephanie

That's fine, Stephanie. I haven't picked a topic yet. Is there a preference?

Thanks Don! No preference, but I appreciate the question.
