Greetings,

Cal Benjamin will be giving a short presentation on UFOs. We'll have our normal agenda with Skeptical News and Discussions after the presentations.

NOTE: I checked and the Denny's back room is open again so there won't be a scramble and change of venue. There will just be the normal meeting in the back room.

See you there!

____________

The monthly meeting of the Skeptics of Tucson are held on the second Monday of the Month at the Denny's on Speedway, near Alvernon at 7PM. Many show up early for dinner and conversation prior to the official meeting.

Apparently, there were a couple of Mulders at the meeting that really wanted to believe and were uncomfortable with a focused look that the underlying probability of space aliens visiting the planet. If we can apply what we know from our earthly experience to what it would take to have a space faring species visit us from light years away, we can virtually eliminate space aliens as a possible answer when we see something in the sky that we don't understand.

Skeptical? Yes. Narrow-minded and hyper-focused on preconceived notions? That, too. I am a perpetual skeptic, but I also like to remain open to new ideas. It seemed as if the whole thing was about just a couple of people being RIGHT about their OPINIONS. It seemed to me as if I ran into the same belligerence during this meetup that I do with Christians who have run out of rational arguments for their faith. No offense, guys, but I kind of expected something different, I guess.

Ben did an excellent job presenting his case against extraterrestrial UFOs.

Not skeptic and open minded enough for me; seemed more materialistic and cynical. :-/

Thought of this twice at the meeting tonight. Once, during the discussion about "why on earth would they even want to talk to us necessarily?," like why would we talk to ants. Then when Don queued up that video and I saw a space dude talking to a monitor I was *sure* it was about to be this:

I won't be having Thursdays free for something like the next two months, so I'll be missing Drinking/Caffeinateds. Since I have this Monday off I'd like to get a meetup in. What time do people usually show up to eat before the meeting? Shall I just tell the host I'm with "The A Team" like at Red Garter?

We meet in the back room and I show up about 6 PM to set up the equipment and get the room ready.

I'm surprised by the level of growth I've seen since becoming an organizer, it's given me more confidence in my abilities.
