If the thought of Maxine Hong Kingston’s The Woman Warrior fascinates you and you've been pondering Murasaki Shikibu's The Tale of Genji for some time, then this is the book club for you! Slice of Mooncake is based in San Francisco and will focus on literature primarily by Asian American authors, but will also embrace stories centered on Asian culture, history, and icons. Selection of readings will be suggested by both the Organizer and members, and include current fiction, nonfiction, classics, and poetry.
Book discussions will be held monthly on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday evening, with some exceptions. Our principal rendezvous is near AT&T Park in the Embarcadero but selected sessions will be altered at other cafés, teashops, wine bars, or restaurants in the downtown area. Depending on interest, we may also attend local author readings/signings, book fairs, or other literary or cultural events. Members are welcome to propose new locations and outings.
My goal is to create a relaxed and fun environment that will lead to casual and lively dialogue. There will be a suggestion/comments box at each gathering and I welcome any input or feedback. At the end of the night, we will select future readings.
Thank you for your interest and I hope that you'll join us for a "slice!"
