Sloughkeepers is a California Public Benefit Nonprofit corporation dedicated to the removal of trash and pollutants from the sloughs and associated wetlands of the San Francisco Bay and Monterey Bay areas and to aid in the restoration and protection of animals and plants in these environments. We sponsor on-the-water cleanups, kayaking day-trips, and educational events.

    "There is a hard-to-fin­d dirt road between Monte Rd. and Hwy. 1 that leads down to the river. High clearance vehicles are needed, though because of high dirt bumps in the road...."

    "I've paddled the Salinas River twice - there is a primitive launch site under the Hwy 1 bridge - hard to get to, though. River is calm and beautiful - great for any kind of kayak."
