Looking to complete little Lawson Peak. I did this earlier in the season however we didn't quite make it to the false summit, let alone the true summit.
Distance: ~10 km return
Elevation Gain: ~600M
Difficulty: S5 (Due to deep snow on steep sections.)
If unsure what this means, please familiarize yourself. http://www.meetup.com/Slow-and-Steady-Hikers/pages/Trail_Rating_System/
Estimated trip time: As with any mountain trip, expect and plan to be out for a good 12 hours, I'm expecting this to take 6-8 hours.
Trailhead: Penstock Loop Trailhead, Canyon Day use area on Kananaskis lakes trail. We can also cut a bit of flat out and park on the Smith Dorrien where the Penstock loop crosses the road.
Recommended gear: Sturdy hiking boots, mitts/gloves, toque, gaiters, hiking poles, layered clothing with waterproof shell, Snowshoes, headlamp with extra batteries, food and water - you can never have too much, thermos with hot drink of choice.
Microspikes are highly recommended as we may end up having to take snowshoes off if the snow is blown clear near the summit.
Absolutely no cotton clothing.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me,[masked]
Real-time tracking while we're out, feel free to share with emergency contacts. Be aware this is not always 100% and authorities shouldn't be called because it misses a few updates.http://share.findmespot.com/shared/faces/viewspots.jsp?glId=0kQ5sZfx4HIqqmXDJ7cQofUxZENcs0ZDX
Waivers: As per the new policy for waivers; I will bring the group waiver form with me to both the Calgary Meetup location and the trailhead. You must sign it before you will be allowed to go on this hike. You will also be asked to provide the name and phone number of an emergency contact. You are fully aware that organizers are not professional guides and you assume all responsibility for your safety and well-being.
