- Distance: 22 Km Return (to the turnoff to Shadow Lake)
- Elevation Gain: 300 m
- Time: 5-6 hours on at a moderate pace
- Location: Trailhead: Redearth Creek Trailhead, 20 km west of Banff on the Trans-Canada Highway.
- RSVP's open Monday, February 11, 2013 at 7:00am
The trail along the fire road, a far as the turn off to Shadow Lake is easy. Cross through the metal animal fence by using the gate provided, then ski west along the trail, up the hillside. After about 300 m the trail swings left through the forest and soon joins the fire road. The road is wide and the skiing easy. After 6km the road descends gently to the creek and crosses it. There are picnic tables and an outhouse on the far side. The road continues up the right bank of the creek for another 5 km to the Shadow Lake turn-off. This will be our turn around point for the day.
Time permitting, we will stop for a dip in the Banff Hot Springs and grab some coffees/hot chocolates for the ride home. PLAN FOR A FULL DAY OUT. WE WILL RETURN IN LATE AFTERNOON
