  • This location is shown only to members

Just stole this hike description from Mike.

Headlamp would be an important item to bring along as it will be dark coming back down.

I will be doing quite a few sets of Prairie Mountain over the next few months, I'm hoping to slowly build a little bit of speed, but plan to specifically work on adding more weight/gear to the pack every time.

Distance: ~7 km return

Elevation Gain: ~700M

Difficulty: T3 (With snow)
If unsure what this means, please familiarize yourself. http://www.meetup.com/Slow-and-Steady-Hikers/pages/Trail_Rating_System/

Estimated trip time: 2-4 hours (on the mounatin), always be prepared for 24 hours.

Trailhead: The trailhead is located on Highway 66, at the winter gate near Elbow Falls.

Required gear: Sturdy hiking boots, mitts/gloves, toque, gaiters, layered clothing with a waterproof shell, microspikes, headlamps or some sort of light as it is dark. food and water - you can never have too much, thermos with hot drink of choice.

Absolutely no cotton clothing.

Waivers: As per the new policy for waivers; I will bring the group waiver form with me to both the Calgary Meetup location and the trailhead. You must sign it before you will be allowed to go on this hike. You will also be asked to provide the name and phone number of an emergency contact. You are fully aware that organizers are not professional guides and you assume all responsibility for your safety and well-being. You are fully prepared with proper gear and you're physically fit to do this hike with the group.
