Emerald Lake Loop and Basin, Yoho National Park

Kathy will depart from Shouldice Park

Linda will depart from Heritage Park

We welcome beginners for this very scenic hike. After a short, steep section the trail levels. It ends in a natural amphitheatre of hanging glaciers and avalanche paths.

One group will be going up to the amphitheatre the other will stay at the river and siesta. Your choice.

Note: Our pace will be relaxed; it will not be a race. We will be stopping for great views, photos, rest breaks and the occasional head count. Also, if you cannot stay with the group please refrain from signing up.
Speed demons need not to apply!

Hiker requirements: Healthy enough to complete the hike, good sense of humour and a desire to explore the natural environment. Bring your cheerfulness and sense of humour.

Distance: App. 10KM
Elevation gain: 250 M
Duration: 4-5 hours plus driving time. Please note: duration is approximate, always expect the unexpected and come prepared.

Direction: Turn of to Emerald lake / Natural Bridge about 1 km west of field. Follow road to Emerald Lake parking lot. Trail head is at the end of the parking lot.

Gear requirements:
Dress appropriately for the weather
Daypack
Water (minimum 2L for the hike and more for the ride)
Hiking boots (if you show up with runners and/or jeans I will not take you for this hike.)
Hiking poles (optional)
Bear spray must
Extra Snacks and/or Packed Lunch
Camera (optional)
Sunscreen
Pack garbage out (must)

 

We will be stopping at Lake Louise for morning coffee and possibly a bite to eat on our way home.


Suggested passenger fare/costs: $30.00 for gas per person and in cash to your driver. Should you wish to drive yourself fell free to do so. You need Park Pas; if your driver willing to share the group pass $5 towards it.

Who can attend: No dogs please. No children for this hike. Members only.

 

Organizers have the right to remove member as he/she sees fit without prior notice.

Waiver: Your consent is required for attending this event. You will be asked to provide the name and number of an emergency contact. Please read the Waiver by clicking HERE. I will bring the group waiver form with me to the trailhead. You must sign it before you will be allowed to go on this hike so please make sure you read it before you come to Shouldice.

Your Host is a volunteer and not a trained guide. All participants are responsible for assessing the current road, weather, and trail conditions for the trip; and, you are responsible for your safety and well-being. You are fully prepared with proper gear, food and water, personal first-aid and you're physically fit to do this hike with the group.
