16 km return and 865 meters elevation, 5 to 6 hours hiking time. More if we go for Old Baldy Mountain. That would add another 350 meters of elevation and 1.5 ( ? ) km
Description excerpted from Where Locals Hike in the Canadian Rockies by Kathy & Craig Copeland:
Old Baldy Ridge is a mellow, alpine hump well below 2,728m Old Baldy Mountain. Ignored by motorists plying Hwy 40, Old Baldy Ridge is neither craggy nor towering. Its blunt top and forested flanks are nondescript. Singular peaks nearby hog all the attention: Mt. Lorette, Mt. Allan, Mt. Kidd, and The Wedge.
But Old Baldy Ridge is a fine grandstand from which to gaze upon those and other monumental mountains. The ridgetop is broad and, true to its name, treeless.
Though the trip begins on an old road, it leads to an engaging, rugged trail - streamside for about an hour. Where it briefly deteriorates to a bootbeaten ledge climbing the gully wall, acrophobes will be unnerved. Beyond, a luxuriant subalpine gorge beckons, and the hiking is easy again. Upward progress is rewarded with startling over-the-shoulder views of The Fortress and The Wedge. The final, grassy-slope ascent is steep but increasingly scenic.
