Hike - Eagle Hill from Sibbald Lake

  • History note: likely climed by the irrigation survey in 1897.

    Moderate - Strong beginners are welcome.

    Distance: 17.2 km Elevation Gain 390 m

    Pace will be relaxed - no speed demons please

    Hiking time (not including driving time):  approx. 6 to 7 hours

    Directions to trail head

    Drive west on Trans Canada Hwy to Sibbald Creek Trail exit (hwy 68). At 10.3 km west of the K Country Boundary, turn right toward Sibbald Lake Campground. At the 3-way junction, keep left into Sibbald Lake day-use area parking lot (just before the gate for Camp Adventure).

    Hike Description

    This long, fairly easy trail meanders through typical foothills country of meadows, pine and aspen forests to an amazingly good viewpoint on the northern edge of Kananaskis Country. Could be windy! If the sky is clear, we will also have a good view of Cox Hill and Moose Mountain and far in the distance, Fortress Mountain.












    Gear Suggestions:
    Dress appropriately for the weather - warm quick drying clothing in layers

    Hiking boots
    Gaiters (if you have them)

    Lunch and snacks
    Water 1-2L
    Camera (optional)

    I am not a guide please do your homework and know where you are going.

    Suggested gas contribution is $10.00/passenger please pay your driver.

    Please also indicate when you RSVP if you are a passenger or if you can drive with # of passengers you can take with you.


    This hike is weather dependent-not going up if there is any chance of thunderstorms in the area.

    Please check the website before you drive out, I will cancel if the weather is bad but will attempt to send an email to everyone who have RSVPed.


    Waivers: As per the new policy for waivers; I will bring the group waiver form with me to both the Calgary Meet up location and the trailhead. You must sign it before you will be allowed to go on this hike. You will also be asked to provide the name and phone number of an emergency contact. You are fully aware that organizers are not professional guides and you assume all responsibility for your safety and well-being. You are fully prepared with proper gear and you're physically fit to do this hike with the group.
