Urban hike - Glenmore Reservoir - MEETING TIME HAS CHANGED TO 9 AM

  • This location is shown only to members

MEETING TIME HAS CHANGED FROM 8 AM TO 9 AM

Due to the Stampede Road Race using the Glenmore Reservoir pathway for the 1/2 Marathon route, it would be better for the runners to give them a chance to go through the area where we start our walk to delay our start time by one hour. I hope everyone can still make it. The time delay also means that I will pick up participants (only 1 so far) at the Heritage Train Station at 8:30 am.

THANK YOU to the generous people who are offering rides on their way to Glenmore Landing.

The paved pathway around the Glenmore Reservoir has barely been affected by the flood, there are only a few patches of mud on the path in the Weaselhead area and the bridge over the Elbow River is intact.

Description:  We will start at the Glenmore Landing parking lot and walk around the entire reservoir, going through the South part first, Weaselhead, the ridge of the North section of the park, then over the Dam, on by the Rockyview Hospital, bypassing Heritage Park and finally returning to Glenmore Landing where participants can have lunch if they wish to do so.

Distance: approx. 16 km

Time: 3.5 to 4 hrs.

Pace: Moderate - no speed demons please

What to bring:

- Water at least 1 L

- Snack

- Bug spray - lots of bugs this year:0( so be prepared

- Comfortable shoes - NO flip flops please.

This event will take place rain or shine, please dress appropriately.

NOTE: the pathway is shared by other walkers, runners and cyclists. Please be considerate and stay on the right side of the pathway.

You are fully aware that organizers are not professional guides and by your R.S.V.P you assume all responsibility for your safety and well-being.You are fully prepared with proper gear and you're physically fit to do this hike with the group.

YES Dogs can come but please only on leash.

Note:  if anyone has to use the Calgary Transit to get to Glenmore Landing, I can pick up people at the Heritage C-Train Station at 8:30 sharp. Please indicate in the comment section when you RSVP.

If anyone needs to contact me at the last minute - please call or text me at [masked]-3716.
